Microsoft are looking for people to try out the next big dash update it seems.

    From Major Nelson's blog:

    Xbox LIVE Update Preview Program

I am happy to announce that we’re doing an Xbox 360 System Update Preview program for our next release, and the opportunity to sign up is now available. Much like we did last year, you’ll need to visit the Microsoft Connect site from this link and sign in with your Windows LIVE ID that is connected to your Xbox LIVE Gamertag.

Once you do that, you need to fill out the "Xbox LIVE Update Preview Sign Up" survey in order to be considered for receiving the Preview System Update. We're asking a few questions about where you live, your home network, ISP connection and a few other pieces of information. We are looking for a good cross-section of our members in order to get the best feedback we can.

The Xbox team will then review all of the applications and if you’re selected we’ll send you an email notifying you of your acceptance in the program. A couple of points before you head off to register:

    * We’re looking for multiple thousands of participants, so your chances of making it in are good
    * This opportunity is open to all Xbox LIVE Members in regions where Xbox LIVE is available.
    * Just completing the survey does not automatically get you access to the Preview Program. We’ll be making final selections from the completed surveys and send you an email if you are selected.
    * While both Xbox LIVE Gold and Silver members can sign up, Priority will be given to Gold members in the selection process.

If you are accepted, you'll hear from us in about a week. Make sure your information on Connect is updated so we can email you if you are accepted. Also, I’ll be sure to updated/edit if the program fills up.

    Good luck!

and I just got the E74 which means I can't access my console ID from Dashboard. Perhaps I get it back just in time for the deadline. Wishful thinking!

You can get in on XBox.com if you need to. I'm pretty sure the DRM tool gives you the Console ID.

If you can read this, you don't need glasses.

You can get your console ID by going to the XBox DRM migration tool and starting the first part of the process but not finishing. It lists the console IDs of the machines you've downloaded on. Not any good for serial nos though :(

Like said above as I was typing. Get out of my head!

Does the registration process involve Silverlight at some point? Because on a Mac using Safari I'm sitting on a blank page with a blue Microsoft header and a green spinner just going round and round and round...

EDIT: Fixed by using Firefox instead. MS deliberately blocking Safari? Or does Safari just not work properly despite Apple claiming it's the most standards compliant browser in the world?

Possibly, MS love Silverlight at the moment.

Got a notification mail from MS that was on the preview programme and my Xbox decided to update so I guess that's the beta then.

So I've been reading from participants that they're seeing some significant improvements in load times on the marketplace (What was previously 30+ seconds for them is now ~5 seconds). Same goes for the "My Games" list.

Anyone here had a chance to give it a go yet?

I have it, friends list is much faster to load, all the other changes are just pointless superficial crap. The real changes are twitter, last.fm, games on demand etc. that aren't available yet.

yeah the marketplace changes have made it a worthy update for me - no more waiting around they tend to load in 3 seconds. Rest of it is pretty much useless to me though and considering a lot of it was US only it's no surprise

Just updated too. Like others have said, there's no big change so far beyond things loading far more quickly in the marketplace menus as Facebook, Twitter aren't in there.

I'm disappointed by the avatar marketplace items so far. Halo t-shirts, predictable stuff like that. Only the Monkey Island stuff is any fun, but 160 points is too much for a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle or a giant cotton swab... Unlocking these bits by completing sections of the game would be cool though.

Does anyone have any idea which games will be the first to offer avatar awards?
