so recently ive taken to throwing some fruit in a blender with some healthy yoghurt stuff and a dash of milk. its delicious!

cant help but think it feels like cheating tho, i need a nutritionist; is it actually healthy to consume quite a lot of fruit in this way?

post your recipes and suggestions here!

I don't bother with milk / yog, just tend to make pure fruit smoothies.

    Can't go wrong with:

Banana, strawberry, blackberry, kiwi - and a dash of apple juice.

Apple, carrot and ginger is very nice. Needs a fruit juicer rather than a blender tho'.

For a blender, milk, honey, bananas and strawberries is luvverly.

What also works nicely is to chuck some rolled oats in there. Takes a bit of drinking but rolled oats, honey and a yog-based smoothie with soft fruits = FTW

Yeah, a punnet of strawbs and a nana, a load of ice, a squeeze of golden syrup, half a (big) pot of yoghurt and a few oats. That serves me and the missus every morning.

Alternatively, a punnet of blueberries and two nanas.

How's it cheating?! Nothing wrong with a spot of milk/yoghurt. Sounds pretty healthy. Just mix up the fruit to get a variety of "stuff".

DTA, up for a healthy pint next week?! I am family-less for a week, woohoo! Wonder if Pinebear has kept a list of all localish EGers?

i dont know, just feels a bit like a cop out for your five a day, and ive been feeling a bit bloated since i started but tbh ive piled the weight on recently so that may be a factor.

    my recipe is:
half a tin of pears in pear syrup
    as much melon as possible
    half a banana
    few strawberries
    half a tub of yoghurt
    milk to thin
been experimenting with peaches, apples, pineapples and kiwi fruits, will try other things as well.

dam, yeah, well up for a pint some night next week, just name the day, i finish at half 4 so can get into town for 5. i want to get a proper glasgow meet sorted out for september now, august might come too soon.

Why would you put tinned pears in a fresh fruit smoothie? The have virtually zero nutritional value and you can get decent seasonal fruit now.

    Beautiful tender beings.

Tell you what else works really nicely in a smoothie. Cucumber. No, hear me out - cucumber, sprig of mint, milk, Avocado and a banana is just a stunning combination. There is no earthly reason why it should work, but it does. Ace colour too.

Didn't Janet Street-Porter do a feature on smoothies on the F word? Basically saying that just the sheer amount of sugar you're consuming in a small time frame isn't good for your teeth or something?

I love smoothies too though :-)

for the syrup mostly, and the taste.

but this is the kind of info i need/want! same with the sugar thing, i know fruit can be acidic and therefore detrimental to the health of your teeth, i wonder if there is any other problems relating to the intake of so much condensed fruit in such a (relatively) short length of time...?

I've just made one with some frozen summer fruits from Tesco and pineapple (and some pinapple juice).

    Yum.

Because you've got a combination of fructose / acid, it's probably not the greatest idea in the world to try brushing your teeth directly after one. But unless you're one of those weirdos who can drink litre after litre of water (I fucking HATE drinking water) then at least your supplimenting your supposed tooth rot by getting a fuckloads of vits.

    my fav is...

    half a banana
    7 strawberries
    handful of blueberries
a splash of orange juice and apple juice
    ice

all blended together in a red Kitchenaid blender, the Ferrari of blenders.

Or a much more simpler one is

    Watermelon and ice blended

    Frozen bananas are a must.
I skipped making smoothies and now make my own soft serve ice cream instead.
    Frozen bananas
    Milk
    Berries
    Hint of instant coffee powder

Go easy on the milk but not too easy.
Berries can be of any frozen kind. I found that raspberries are excellent.

Sometimes I chuck some chocolate in there to.

I've been adding wine to smoothies ever since a friend made one for me. a lot of wine.
  • Deleted user 14 July 2009 13:16:25
Buy an innocent smoothie. Cheaper than making the same quantity yourself with fresh fruit.

Of course if you go the 'frozen fruit and some yoghurt' route, it probably evens out.
