Create a new email address but pick China as location, Google for a post code or what ever they use and just fill in the rest. Then create an XBox Live account with that email and download it from the console.

After that switch to your normal account and play.

I think it has just worked for me.
First I had to create a new webmail, then I created a new Xbox live account with it and set region to China.
After that I had to fill in zip code info (found using site from a Google search for area codes in China).
Once I had the Xbox account set up I went to my webmail and verified the it via the email link.
Next I went to the download page for the game (linked earlier in the thread) and clicked the link to buy - I used Google translate to see what was what.
It asked me to verify the purchase with a code it emailed me, I found the email in my webmail spam folder - a six or eight digit numeric code.
After THAT, I went through to the sales page and filled in more name details etc (all in Chinese again but I used translate) - the most important bit on that page was the zip code.
Once I had that done and saved the details I got the 'w00t! purchase successful' popup.
Logged into new account on Xbox 360, downloaded new profile and game is currently downloading.

Seems to be working for me. Was a right faff though. I had to create a new email address, set it up on the XBox website as a Live China account, then use 'Download Profile' to get the account on my XBox, then go back to the site (in Chinese) to download the game. I had to put in a my Chinese address at the last step (1 China Street, Shanghai, Post Code 010000 seemed to work...)

Now for some reason it only seems to download when I am actually signed into the alternative account. And then only very slowly. But it is downloading.

I just bought Hitman and Dragonborn the week before they got reduced. So I figure that I am owed a freebie...!

You can set it to download before putting the profile on your xbox. It is a faff but given you're getting a 20+ game for free, I'd say it's worth it.

    Portable view - Never forget.

360 owners should be wise in the ways of setting up alternate region accounts by now. :p

    1. Set up Hotmail/Gmail account FOR THAT REGION. 2 minutes.
    2. Set up new gamertag at xbox.com using that email address, choosing that region. 2 minutes.
    3. ...Well, what did you want it for? In this case, click on that AC3 link kindly provided by Baihu1983 and choose 'Buy'. That's it. Some accounts don't have English xbox pages, so Google Translate on Chrome is your friend.

360 DRM means that the download can be used with any gamertag on the console it's first downloaded to, AND on any console using that gamertag with which it was purchased.

If your 360 breaks, you can License Transfer across to the new one.

RelaxedMikki, 'Active Downloads' queues are individual and specific to gamertags.

Edit: AC3 has gone from the Chinese marketplace now (if you didn't already get it, you're too late!). If your download has been interrupted or is having problems, why not try an Account Migration? The weather is beautiful here in New Zealand (apart from the rain), and everyone speaks English! ;)

In this instance, when migrating the account to a new region choose the region you are actually in. Go to download history and redownload the game. This should fix the problem for anyone who was downloading the game when the plug was pulled. There is also done ip verification at around 77% download mark that corrupts the file if your account region and ip don't match.
At least this is what I gather from the Neogaf thread.

The account migration worked for me too, unfortunately it's restarted the download but it's going a lot faster this time so no biggie.

Pfft, you haven't even finished the tutorial yet! I assume. As the tutorial is the first eight hours of the game.
