I've noticed that there are several sources for what region machines US, Asian and JP games can run on, but information confirming PAL games compatibility seems difficult to find so I thought I'd start a list and see if people could add to it who own US or JP/Asian machines and hopefully help out other importers with what local software will or won't run on our boxes. I don't see any other threads on this topic but feel free to point them out if I'm mistaken. So far I have been having to guess from other regions' games compatibility what the chances are of my PAL software working.

To start off I have a Japanese 360 (for my J-SHMUPs) and have tested the following games:

Feel free to let me know if you think this thread/list has any use, and I've so far ignored other compatability lists for non-PAL software as existing lists seem decent enough (again if worth adding the list can be expanded somewhat). I have a couple more games to test and may borrow more off friends to expand my list if possible so will update the list if needs be.

Read thread page 3 for a discussion on XBLA/DLC.

I guess no-one thinks there is much point to this list then. Have to find somewhere else to try and compile it unless there are foolproof ways of knowing in advance about how to know for sure that I am unaware of.

Visiting Play Asia seems to be what most people on here do (myself included), they put the effort in so we don't have to.

    This space left intentionally blank.

I've looked around a few times and PlayAsia seems to be one of the only places doing it, and only because they have a vested interest, of course!

That's one area where the PS3 has a definite edge over the 360: no region lockouts. Lets pray the Xbox 1080 will end region locking once and for all.

The original Xbox offered publishers the *option* of region-free games, though, so that was ahead of its competitors when it came to imports. If the publishers chose to use it, that is.

At the moment it's only Nintendo who seem to think region-locking their games is a good idea. The twats.

Ah but Play Asia doesn't stock PAL titles, so there is always the risk of a PAL title being region locked if you own a non-PAL console. For running American or Japanese titles on PAL consoles Play-Asia is good, but living in the UK it'd be nice to know what works and what doesn't without having to hope we have same region coding as the American copies for games. I plan to avoid buying a PAL console due to lack of space (for as long as possible anyway) so the Japanese machine is my ONLY 360 :)

Thus my emphasis on PAL games on non-PAL consoles not the other way around... One game example I'd like to buy UK copy of but have no idea of region compatibility is Earth Defense Force.

Cozeny: Thankfully Blazblue appears to work on JP consoles so that should be fine when my preorder arrives. Only played it a little in the arcades but seemed quite nice.

I think it's a great idea. As One_Vurfed_Gwrx says, Play Asia is only good for mentioning multi region titles they sell. It'd be nice to know which UK titles work abroad. I'll add a few to this list once I go on holiday as I'll take a couple over.

If you can read this, you don't need glasses.

Too be fair, there's still too much on the 360 that's locked out (waiting for months for Katamari pissed me off, as did waiting for Tales Of Vesperia), whereas the PS3 doesn't leave the option open to publishers.
It's region free, period. That's the one of the few things that Sony did truly good this generation, no 2 ways around it.

The UK version of the Sega Megadrive collection doesn't work, nor do any of Koei's titles.

Well, you can borrow mine if you'd like.

Agreed, definitely. I was leery of them actually doing it when it was first touted - as with big companies crowing about themselves, there's nearly always a caveat - but they actually did it. HURRAH!

I agree. The caveat was bluray region locking.

    Oh well. No loss really.

Is SMDC tested on a US or Japanese 360? So I can split list into machines they've been tested on. Also can you name what Koei titles you've tried? (may stick a blacklist of Publishers on bottom such as Square and Koei)

Japanese. And as for Koei, I've tried Samurai Warriors 2, both Musou Orochi games and Bladestorm. Their Japanese titles are similarly locked from non-Japanese machines - Gundam Musou 2 is definitely locked on the other side.

I've noticed that a lot of Japanese language Japanese games are regionlocked even if the other regions are totally regionfree (including working on Japanese machines) (ie MS titles).

Titles added to list. Any more titles from other people are appreciated for either JP or US machines.

Given the bitching that some publishers have had about MS not allowing their shooters on XBLA because they're 'retro' (like hell a lot of them are, it's not like we're talking early 80s), I find it utterly bizarre they'll region-lock them.

    An example :(

I've seen vids of it and it looks, well, utterly mental.

Ah Otomedius, a game I was looking forward to, but is one of the few I didn't warrant as worth buying after playing the arcade version which was OK but nothing special, didn't have the Parodius feel that it promised... Almost bought the Tournament stick bundle though but cost of shipping along with stick price when cash had ran out put paid to that plan...

And yes region locking sucks, thus me owning a JP 360 as it's range is more suited to my tastes than the UK or US range... Although the US getting Raiden Fighters Aces is annoying as cheap but protected as US only...

Hmm, seems edits don't bump the thread, mildly irritating if I want to keep it visible with new entries... Although it doesn't seem too popular anyway as only had one other person contributing to the list so far. Thought this might be useful as the info is not on the Play Asia lists and I'd have imagined a few people on here having imported either US or JP 360s...

Cheers, any extra data is helpful, as it seems to be slow progress so far :)

I still have a couple more PAL games floating around that I ahevn't tried out yet too.

The XBox originals are hit and miss. I downloaded Black and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory in the UK. Splinter Cell works (must be region free) but Black won`t play on an NTSC console.

Games that don`t work on an NTSC console from the UK:

    Beautiful Katamari

    Games that do:

    Fallout 3
    Oblivion

EDIT: This is a Canadian console I`m using currently.

miiguel: Which region 360 are you using? I was assuming a Japanese model until I saw the jNTSC Vesperia listed as not working. Trying to list PAL software on non-PAL machines.

Okay, name one PS3 game which isn't region free, assuming you don't have an SDTV.
