GSXR600 K4 will be my first sports bike I've decided. Hopefully by the end of the year
    You'll love it!

You motorbike people might be able to help me with this: what's the best way to stop a load of pricks racing their motorbikes up and down the local bypass at way over 100 mph? Police have done nothing to date.

A134 in Suffolk. Not you is it? If it is, fucking stop it as it's making our lives a misery.

Beyond reporting them, there's not much you can do. Keep badgering the police, they have to at least try and do something. Have you thought about telling the Police you'll write to the local papers or something?

Is it worth pointing out the police are amazingly overstretched and understaffed at the moment? Write to your MP instead asking for more cops.

Yeah a local paper would love something like that. Bike racing menace is a much better headline than someone stole my wheelie bin.

I appreciate that the police are overstretched and I'm really not having a go at them. Someone is going to get killed sooner or later - it's happened on that road in the past and it will happen again.

Put a picket fence alongside the road, they won't fuck around with something so dangerous there.

Seriously though, your best bet is to gather evidence on film, to hand to the Police, papers, MP etc.
Without letting the bikers catch you of course :)

I was thinking of going for the vigilante option - I can sneak up to the layby where the 'races' are organised without being seen and dish out rich creamy bowls of justice.

In real life, of course, that'll end you up in prison. Or savagely beaten by guys in body armour.

Make a crude hand painted sign "caution, oil spill"
Stretch a clothesline across the road
    Throw some tacks/nails about

If they're doing 100+, those last two would be murder.

Oh, fair enough, then. Running in leathers and boots is no picnic, so you'll be fine. :D

What about building a cardboard speed camera and posting it halfway along the bypass?

I think it's probably not entirely legal... but it's less illegal than stringing cheesewire across the carriageway.

Mind you, if you can't get police to come out for reports of fairly serious malfeasance, what likelihood they'd come out to investigate a mysterious speed camera?

    Virtually none, you'd hope.

Went to see the LE 50th anniversary R1 last night. Bit of a strange bloke selling it (wouldn't let me test ride it at all, even though I took insurance docs), but nice bike. I'd quite like it, but it's never going to fit in the garage.

I suppose I could keep the Kwak outside under covers and have the R1s inside... :D

Balls. I really like their gear.

That is a shame. That made nice quality kit that was reasonably priced.

I bought my last couple of lids in HG, our local one used to be pretty good for that. Both Arai and HJCs were always quite well priced and I don't like buying those online.

But their own brand gear, imo, was always somewhat overpriced compared to some other retailers.

I dunno if it's my imagination, but I seem to remember the parent company going under at the end of last year, so they were always going to struggle. Symptomatic of the state of the bike industry at the moment, and of wider economic issues, too.

Stores will be staying open to sell off existing stock at "massive price cuts", apparently.
