Same here, any time between 10:30 - 14:00 generally with (seemingly) no real correlation to weather conditions or time of year.

I too remember with fondness back in the day the first post arriving early enough to read birthday cards before school and suchlike :(

The post in Surrey really varies especially in my area. In live in quite a small town but the major sorting office is like on my doorstep. On some days the post can come as early as 8.AM. On other days it come as late as about 12PM. We've never had post any latter that so I just assume that if there's not enough time they just skip delivery for that day. My friend who lives on the other side of town has to wait sometimes as late as 3PM for he's post. Today must be a bad day because it's 11:12 now and still no package :( I wish they had a system in place where people could just collect packages themselves but even if they did the sorting office is only open until about 2PM here (Same as our bank). One of the many disadvantages to living in a small town, everything shuts really early and the post is unreliable :(

On weekedays in my bit of Sarf London post on weekdays usually arrives anywhere 2 hours either side of noon. Interestingly enough on Saturdays, much like other deliveries, it arrives at the crack of dawn. I'm sure this is purely coincidental and has nothing whatsoever to do with these delivery people having other things to do with their time on those days.

Haven't the regulations recently been heavily relaxed? Our sorting offices are now open till 8pm and deliveries can go past 3 or 4pm. Ours usually arrives around the 1 o'clock mark

Even in London most of the sorting offices shut at around 1-2pm, a few are open to 8pm one day of the week, but it's still really difficult to collect something if you work normal hours.

I'll never get my Orc looking the same again.

    It's a potent combination. I'm already regretting un-ignoring him.

FYI Madgod, the Royal Mail, at least for now is still in public hands.

The service is still pretty good. I do miss the early post, but what we have still does the job at the moment and my usual postie is a pleasant and reliable chap. What I miss I can pick up from the local sorting office, which is in walking distance, unlike the 'haha fuck you if you don't have transport' depots in the middle of grim, dodgy industrial estates that the other couriers tend to send you to.

Personal experience of the Royal Mail being privatised? But don't worry about it, not worth arguing over.

They've shut all our local sorting offices in Brum and centralised them to ones that are open longer, which means I can still pick up my undelivered parcels until 5, and 8pm on Wednesday, but it's about 5 miles away. I never expect our mail before 10, usually arrives by midday.

Just seen on the news that Royal Mail have announced a 23M profit this year after a 120M loss last year. Mostly achieved through automation & reduction in staff - the postage price increases won't really show up until next year. Feels like they are getting primed for privatisation.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

I dont even start looking for a delivery until 11 am. And as I'm usually at work by then, it's either there when I get in or it isn't...

About 15 mins ago. Special Deliveries are normally first thing. Since I moved out of an area where RM was staffed by agency staff who didn't care, it's been spot on.

Somewhere between 1 and 4. It seems that, despite prices increasing by more than double inflation, the quality of service has completely vanished. 8 years ago 99.9% of things sent standard first class arrived the next day, now it's around 20%, and it's not uncommon for me to be waiting a week for first class things.
