Don't say Nintendo didn't do anything for you: on August 24th, the publisher will release Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii. Metroid Prime Trilogy, releasing almost to the day of Metroid Prime 3 Corruption's two year anniversary, is a jammed to the brim package that combines all of Retro's first-person adventure games for the GameCube and Wii, on a single disc. And the two GameCube games Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2 Echoes -- have been reworked with full widescreen, 480p support and feature the same awesome Wii Remote/Nunchuk control that made Metroid Prime 3 Corruption so tight.

This is a far superior strategy than what Nintendo is doing in Japan with the Metroid Prime games, since in that territory Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2 have been released separately with the "New Play Control" branding. North American gamers get all three for $49.99, an absolute bargain when you consider 2006's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is still one of the top titles on the Wii and you're getting three great games for the price of a standard Wii release.

Seems like a bit of a bargain for anyone who's not played 'em, in fact even if you've played one of them it still probably works out as pretty good value. Unusually for Nintendo. :p

Nice deal though you just know this is a main game in their 2009 list because they have fuck all else.

Quite the opposite probably. A good sign for E3. This would've easily gotten a few cheers during the press conference.

Damn, I wish I hadn't recently bought MP3 now. I've not even played it yet :(. Actually I wish I hadn't bought the GC versions of Prime 1 and 2 aswell (not played those either).

As someone who loved Metroid Prime on the Gamecube but never got round to getting Prime 2, this is the sort of thing that might actually tempt me into getting a Wii.

    /power-up collection tune

1 is still my favourite, but they're all awesome. I'll have this for sure.

Loved the first one, second one not so much, the third one looked good but I hated the new Wii controls and gave up on it. Very disappointing that this bundle doesn't let me play using the classic controls.

Isn't that entirely the point of it, though?

If you want classic controls, couldn't you just buy the originals?

Because then I'd have to buy a new Cube controller and a memory card. Hopefully MP1 & 2 will be playable with the Classic Controller, but I suppose I could live without.

Oh I didn't realise GC games weren't compatible with the classic controller.

    Fair enough then. :)

I was hoping I could play MP3 with classic controls, it does look a fantastic game after the introductory bit.

The traditional controls are absolutely shit for a game like Metroid. A game based on exploration - a controller with two sticks - yet there's no free view?! However thought of that should have been shot back then.

I'll be getting this. I was tempted to get the Metroids for the new controls and 480p widescreen, especially because I never played Metroid Prime 2 but now that all are on just one disc I just can't pass on this. Really great decision by Nintendo not to release them seperately. I have to admit I wasn't expecting this, even though it seemed so obvious and everyone said it should have been that way.

Have to say that apart from looking to the extremes up and down (which was more to do with the look speed calibration anyway), I rarely found this a problem in Metroid actually. You can't really look around quickly but for exploration that's rarely a problem, and in combat the lockon tends to take care of things. I know it feels wrong if you're used to normal FPS controls but the Cube Metroid controls are very effective in their own way, I always quite liked the 'feel' of them and never quite got on with the controls for Prime 3 in the same way.

I was not expecting this. I'll definitely be getting it.
I've finished 1 and Corruption and they are two unbelievable games. I haven't played Echoes so I'll be trading in my copy of Corruption and getting this for sure.
    Well played Nintendo!

No support for GC controls? Stupid Nintendo. Still, if the newfangled Wii controls get more people to experience the awesomeness that is Metroid Prime 1, then I'm all for it.

I actually suggested this as a better idea when the NPC range was announced - makes a lot more sense. I've got the two GC ones so I'm not sure if I'll get this trilogy though - depends on the price as to whether its worth buying 2 out of the 3 games again.

Absolute fantastic deal for those who dont own the 3 prime games, added wii controls to the first 2 will make it that much better. Can we now get prime 4!

MP2 is pretty shitty. What a disappointment that was. >:|!

If they have reworked MP2 to (argh) be, you know, less suckass then this compilation would almost be enough for me to consider buying a Wii.

    Almost.
