The cringeworthy diary bits really does ruin this. Only on the first season, do they fuck off later on or get worse?

I was very VERY late to the party on this, 5 and half seasons were in the bag when I first heard about it. It's crackers, I'm a total slave to US stuff, I recall watching Breaking Bad weekly when it first appeared for it's first 6 episode run so god knows how this passed me by. Maybe it's the name - I've watched S513 just now, I'm so familiar with SoA that the name no longer makes me go "Eh?", but I suspect I may have seen the name and subconsciously thought it sounded naff originally.

Anyway, first time I've visited this thread, always avoid such things until I'm fully up to date.

I've nothing to contribute bar I'm disappointed Michael Chiklis has never appeared - Dutch, Acevada, Ronny, Lem, Shane with added norks, Julian, and probably some others I've forgot (wasn't Gemma Teller in The Shield briefly?) but no Mackey? Waaaah ;_:. Suppose he's too busy with Pawn Stars.

Anyway, loved it overall. Thought the Irish season was a quite disastrous dip, but it got back on track.

Feel slightly bereft now I'm done with it, it's been my goto show after work, feet up and beer in hand, for the last few months :(

Edit: Good spot re: Outlaw Empires, will deffo seek that out.

I'll wait till it gets to netflix. Having interruptions to a story being dictated to you? How quaint.

Finally finished series 5. One of the strongest series IMO. Really enjoyed it. Not sure I was keen on the ending, but still great TV.

Season 6 has started! It's a pretty good first episode!

Also good to see that the ethnic gangs around the place now include Persians. Also, Robocop. \o/

Do these Persians live in tents and ride camels into battle? Because that would be about as accurate as the show's vision of Ireland. I'm so over Sons of Anarchy now.

    No, they're into torture porn.

And I didn't really like the Ireland arc either. But season 5 was one of the best. They really found their game again.

And Robocop is in it now. As well as Jimmy Smits. There is nothing not to like.

It was a good enough episode, but it was kind of a reintroduction more than a balls to the wall premiere. I laughed out loud when the door opened for Clay to go into the communal area and he immediately turned to cut a deal.

Looking forward to the next episode though. Unfortunate that it's on at the same time as Breaking Bad, as I'm positively giddy over that.

It did have something new though - a guy drowning in wee. Never seen that before.

Good first episode, although that much hyped final 5 minutes was something that would get US viewers all wound up, more so than us Brits. Hopefully it'll actually have some impact to this season's overall storyline, rather than just being there for shock value.
The only problem the show has is that it's not Breaking Bad, and no US show, bar maybe Boardwalk Empire, can compare.

Who do we think is for the chop this year then? I've got a feeling Tig's time is up.

Big fan of SOA, but I thought this was weak, bordering on lame.

Maybe I'm just spoiled with Boardwalk/Breaking Bad, but it just seemed transparent.

The cheesy music starting up everytime there's a action scene, that's getting old fast - and the ending, the kid at the school... gimmie a break, WTF was that!

It's not Breaking Bad, no, but it's not really trying to be either. I appreciate both shows on different levels.

Sure, BB is better in a general sense, but I have room for this.

Erm, yeah. That was certainly a tad more fucked up than usual.

Good to see Weller, and the lovely N'awlins belle Dickens, but everything else was just a tad crazy.

Peter Weller snapping back that Persia hadn't been a country for so many years was an easter egg, or whatever.

He's a geography/history buff, and teaches at some university.

Seen him hosting a documentary series Engineering an Empire, with all the old world countries and empires. Some good shit.

Hmm, after Breaking Bad and compared to Boardwalk Empire, this show feels really cheesy and a bit grubby now. Defo not enjoying it like I used to :(

    I just watched episode 2.

I should know this by now, but by god these are horrible people. Kid shoots up a school, and their main concern is not getting investigated because of it.

This season's been pretty slow so far, but judging by the last episode, things are about to pick up. I'm struggling to see what the point of El Beardo was now though.

    It's certainly picking up.

Although I'm basically out of sympathy for any of the club members now. Tara wants a divorce and to get the kids out of there? Yeah, that does sound like a pretty good idea.

But maybe that's what the writers are aiming for.

Anyway, I'm liking where it seems to be heading, so I'll definitely stick around!

Thank god that prospect got smoked... the mumbling fat guy who looked like a die-hard Star Trek fan. He was supposed to be a biker?! Least convincing role in TV history.

Does seem like it's picking up, though. Tara should just get blasted, sick of her too.

I dunno, I liked that guy.

His actor is good as well. He's been in Justified and a bunch of other things.

Venus returns. Could they have gotten a more manly man for this?!

Chiseled jaw that looks like it withstand an impact from Mike Tyson, stubble that you could sharpen a battle axe on... with that rack

    Freakish!

And a rather bizzare Venus-centric filler episode this week. Tig's expressions make it worthwhile though.

A warning to those of a gentile nature: The musical chase scene RETURNS !

I would have Walton Goggins's babies, thank you very much. He's as manly as they come.

Ok, I'm really liking this season. It's a bit unfocused, and I'm not a huge fan of the Tara storyline, but the last couple of episodes have been a *lot* of fun.
