To replace the light gem with dark smog is distracting imo.

I hope the Hammerites are in this.

Like the look of the new Uprising trailer/pro-mo. Loads of atmosphere, love the art style. As long as it plays like a Thief game, even 50% like a Thief game (pleaseeeee). Will prob be my first bought game of 2014.

At the mo I will be getting on 360, but come Feb it may be on a new machine ;)

Don't think I knew it was coming out for current gen consoles. Very excited now as I'll be able to get it.

The new video on the front page doesn't exactly inspire me.

... looks like a mixture of Dishono(u)red, Mirror's Edge and a dash of the old whole-level-collapses that you see in Uncharted.

Not sure what I should expect now really.

Looks poor and too fast. It's meant to be slow, careful, slow, slow, slow.

As a massive fan of Thief 1 and 2, I have my misgivings about this. The more footage I see, the more I want to cry. They have done everything I feared they would. Replaced the real Garret with a guy with the charisma of a starbucks trainee. Seemingly replaced isolation and mystery with dramatic set pieces.

And what the fuck is that on screen fluorescent crap? That's gonna kind of kill the atmosphere in a world of haunted cathedrals and lost cities. That bald guy who is heading the game really is an arse.

I actually wonder what Stephen Russel makes of all this. I don't know if he has even played Thief, although I expect he has. He created a character that was loved by the fans and celebrated as some of the best voicework in a videogame. And then Eidos Montreal replace him with an actor that clearly is not in the same league.

Won't it be the same as Deus-Ex where things will be optional.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Really not keen on this after seeing that new trailer. Voice is shit, Garrett looks odd, big actiony scripted bits like that burning bridge, leaping on guys and taking them out easily, the list goes on.

I know games evolve but it looks less and less like the thief I love.

Exactly my impressions. There was a worrying amount of running and dashing in that trailer.

It's weird how all these games gravitate towards the same place. You'd have thought with Hitman and Splinter Cell both abandoning their hardcore routes, there'd be a space for Thief to really celebrate being the last remaining proper stealth game. But no.

    market trends innit.

Accountants and marketing bods, looking at sales charts and metacritic and trying to break it all down into some magical formula about what a game should look like based on everything else that's done well recently.

To be honest I'm looking at it from the perspective of someone who works in that kind of arena. What these "marketing bods" actually do is the opposite of that, and try and identify gaps, which is exactly my point.

Mmm, just watched some footage. Theres something inherently wrong with it. Its as if its not thief. At least, not the thief I remember. I'm not sure what it is so can't really rule it out all together but its not thief

It just looks like Dishonored to me, only not as good. Which is perhaps a little ironic.

And considering Dishonored* to me played like a poor Thief, that's not good at all.

*Not saying Dishonored is bad, it's really not. But it's no way near the levels of Thief 1 & 2.

Has that transitional canned animation loading zone like Tomb Raider which looks cool but basically hides the fact your in a separate enclosed area were shit is about to go down.

Which is a bit annoying too, because splitting the levels up into separately loaded chunks was one of the biggest criticisms levelled at Deadly Shadows nearly a decade ago.

I'll be voting with my wallet on this one - they can fuck off until they bring me a game with Garrett in it.

Damn fucking shame. Oh well, we'll always have the Cathedral (or for you Thief noobs, the Cradle ;).

Oh bugger. This was a shoe-in for me having loved the previous games on the PC, but, the more previews I watch the less I'm convinced they haven't fucked it up.
The smoke around the corner of the viewport is horrible and the voice work is a little bit dudebro.
Certainly no longer a pre-order which makes me :(

    Some info from IGNs playthrough

Quote a few options to raise difficulty before starting a campaign : Focus, a vision skill allowing Garrett to see notable objects and slow time can be switched off, removable target reticule, can't knock out guards when they are alerted, remove checkpoints, reduce your characters speed, one hit kills against you, increase price of resources, no upgrades allowed, Ironman mode one life only lose that and game restarts from beginning, turn off the mini map, directional arrows

    No less linear options

Well these previews are based on 6 hours of play...until I read the reviews I'm open-minded about this.

The achievement list is in. Supports multiple playthroughs, and there's some good stuff for the "pure" their style play through. Whether you like achievements or not, it's shows that the core of the game is still there in some sense and hopefully the level design is a little better once you get into it than the early level previews suggest.

I'm buying it, 360. Flavour. I don't think it is going to be the Thief we all want, but I also think there is going to be enough of a game to warrant a purchase...you dirty Taffers :)

I think i'll get it (PS4 - fuck that last-gen nonsense!) but I doubt it'll be on release.

Never played a Thief game before, so no idea how it compares to previous titles. But it looks pretty good, and it'll be nice to have something to play on PS4!

Looking for a new gaming podcast to listen to? LOOK NO FURTHER!

    !

Check out the originals right now! They are pretty old now and even at the time the graphics looked dated but the atmosphere is right up there with the best of them.

Thats what they're counting on for sales, desperation.

About time the PS4 had some new games. Stupid post launch lull

Yeah, I don't think any team spends years of their lives betting sales on consumer desperation.
