Are the shelters intact? Not quite, but close. (4)

    _ H _ T

    Possible solutions are:

    chat
    chit
    ghat
    shat
    shit
    shot
    shut
    that
    what
    whet
    whit

Can't make any of them fit yet. Anybody out there more awake than me?

    It was 'shut'.

Anagram of huts (shelters), and 'close' wasn't close (near), it was close (shut).

I've got the answer to this already, but it was quite neat. Some football knowledge required...

Plymouth Argyle originally played in loaned grounds, resting in mid season. (8)

Sorry - changed 'on' to 'in' on the Plymouth clue. Which makes a fundamental difference.

Nope - not honest. Think 'American kid's show'

this is why i fucking HATE crossword puzzles, if you had asked me what plymouths nickname is i would get it in an instant, but the way that was worded meant i was thinking more along the terms of "homepark" (where they play) and trying to shoehorn the answer into the clue.

    fucking crosswords...

Don't watch the TV channel, return to ecstasy! (5)

    E _ A _ E

    and

    Is shoe sounding well? (5)

    _ S _ U _

I reckon the second one might be ISSUE (sounds like 'is shoe'), but I can't explain the 'well' bit.
