Love is The Law - Seahorses.

But it does feature a heck of a lot of fretwanking.

It can't be anything other than the Pulse version of Comfortably Numb for me.

I would love to add one but there is not a favourite for me as there is too many amazing guitar solo just to even name my fave!
  • Deleted user 25 April 2009 13:49:02
Not enough blues here for my liking. :)

Boogie Funk - Freddie King (possibly not his best solo but hell of a fun song)

How blue can you get - BB King (also a frankly staggering vocal performance - skip to a couple of minutes in if you don't want his banter with the crowd)

Although to be honest you could take pretty much any song by either and the soloing would be better than pretty much any other guitarist you could mention.

Er, and on a slightly different note I've always thought the solo from 'Chasing Rainbows' by Shed 7 was awesome.

    I echo Comfortably Numb, and for sheer excitement and energy, this one;

The solo in that song is absolutely exceptional, anyone who understands guitar will fucking love this.

Also, the solo in this song, starting at 4:53 is unbelievable; even more so than the last one.

Good man! Check out the other one I posted, it's just as impressive. The whole DVD is a non-stop assault of exceptional musicianship. but crucially it's also got some really good songs on it.

    Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins

    Most Pumpkins solos really though.

Also, despite only having like 3 or 4 notes in it, I love the little solo bit in Type O Negative's cover of Cinammon Girl.

    Yes. Yes he is.

I remember there being some YouTube vid of one guy playing the whole thing on one guitar, with a keyboard and effects and whatnot. It was pretty fucking impressive.

Tunnel of Love, the closing solo (Dire Straits). And even though I can't stand Tom Jones, this is one my favourite Knopfler moments:

jump to 3:40 to skip to Knopfler playing for the notes, and not for the speed
  • Deleted user 25 April 2009 15:09:54
    Rather fond of:

Iron Maiden - Stranger in a Strange Land (around 3.25) - Adrian Smith is not just a great guitarist, but a really great composer too. Very tasteful playing, tends not to overplay things.

    and...

Thin Lizzy - Still in Love With You (from 2.45 and the rest of the song).

Man, Adrian Smith is awesome. 'Somewhere In Time' is my favourite Maiden album by such a long way it's hilarious, I've heard that song thousands of times, but it still never fails to raise the hairs on my arms when the solo kicks in fully on that song!

Heartbreaker by Led Zep is kinda up there for me, even if it is as sloppy as hell.

Feel free to chuck in Little Wing by SRV as well.

They're not exactly the most flashy - but I love the solo from 'Nothing Else Matters' and (ahem) Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' (hey, it's Eddie VH, so it's OKAY to like it).
