Just drop the file into the device manager in Vuze, go to Video Library on your 360, and voila. Only discovered this last night. Stream was pretty stable too, which is amazing, because when I tried to do the same with Media Centre Extender route, it ran like a dog.

Where's the device manager in Vuze? I've noticed Vuze come up on my 360 video listing, but there's never anything in there.

It's down the left hand side, can't miss it. Collapsable devices menu with beta tag. Maybe need to update your software?

hows it different to doing it in media player or media centre?
  • Deleted user 25 April 2009 11:29:41
Well personally, and like I said in the OP, Vuze 'worked'. I've never been able to say the same using Windows Media solutions (Wi-Fi both ends).

oh right. now you come to mention it, that could be useful to me as the windows media sharing is a bit unstable on my setup and sometimes craps out for no reason. I'll give Vuze a go, cheers.

    Vuze?

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

On mine, Media Centre doesn't work at all, but sharing the libraries using Windows Media Player works great.

Media Centre doesn't work for me either for whatever reason.

How do you set up connection streaming between WMP and 360?

Tools > Options > Library > Configure Sharing

Should be an icon for it if it's on the network and not blocked by your firewall. Just allow access to the 360 and you should be set.

I had no end of grief with the 360 and media center, which amused (well caused a lot of frustration actually) me since both are from Microsoft.

I eventually set up streaming from my Linux box to the PS3 and it was much less hassle than trying to get Media Center and the 360 to play nice. Go figure...

    Cheers foreverafternothing

And strangely enough FooAtari, while MC streaming works like a steaming pile of dog turd, WMP streaming (seems to) work just fine. Go figure indeed.

No "seems to" about it. Just streamed a movie and a TV show, both worked fine, could NEVER get video files to stream via MC.

Yeah I used WMP streaming for a while and it worked quite well.

    It's pretty shit IMO.
  • Deleted user 19 October 2009 20:29:34
Haven't used it over 6 months, but last time I checked it converted all your files whilst streaming. May as well use WMC or PS3MediaServer and not destroy your files.

Why would you stream from Vuze when you can stream straight from your PC?

An HDMI and optical cable saved my sanity.

Vuze was a bit hit and miss for me really, some times it was fine, sometimes it just ground to a halt, this was over a clear wired lan connection.

I wish someone would sticky this advice. It's ridiculous the lengths some people go to for worse results than you'd get from 5 of cable in a heartbeat.

If I hadn't gone this route I'm fairly sure I would have wound up having to buy a new Xbox, mouse and keyboard. Probably repair some walls.

I'm lucky in that I can put my PC right next to my TV, which is the only reason why some might prefer to get the 360 to stream. But spending the money on cables is well worth it even if you have to go a longer distance - no transcoding, no shitty library UI and the option to play games as well.

I tried TVersity. My network didn't like it. I got it working once one time, and it seemed good. Then I turned everything off for the night and come the next day everyone forgot they knew each other or that they even existed.

Quite how the 360 has such a problem talking to Windows is a mystery I'm fairly certain no has any idea of the answer to. It's really chronic.
