In my Luddite defense, I only use my amp for music. I don't watch enough films to warrant a fancy-pants set-up. And I wouldn't know what to do with all the leads with a grown-up set. -

Registered 10 years agoAye, and I'm the reverse.
I don't know any other HiFi buffs off the top of my head. I used to know my stuff, but I realised I was a slag for surround a while back now.VR Guff: www.roadtovr.com (NEW site now live!)

Registered 7 years agoCheers Bob. And cheers buggrit - I'll take a look at the 326.
Gutted my old one died. I loved that little fella... -
Roksan my man.
Depends really, you want an integrated amp? I dunno what sort of sound you like, but Musical Fidelity, Roksan and Rotel are my favs, I'd buy used as well as they'll have had a good run in too.
What speakers are you pairing it with? Does it need to integrate with surround system? -

Registered 7 years agoCheers Crispy - I've got a couple of Celestion f30 speakers connected to the old amp. No need to integrate with any surround sound - it's purely hi-fi for me.gif)
Any advice would be much appreciated. -

Registered 11 years agoDifferent amps have different applications. I have a Marantz amp that's brilliant for jazz so it's worth bearing in mind the music you're going to listen to on it when choosing your amp. -

Listening habits probably break down into 40% classical, 20% jazz, 20% hip-hop, 10% guitar and 10% electronic, I guess. I don't know if that helps much! -

Registered 11 years agoHeh, well which one matters most to you? I'll give a shout for Marantz amps for your choice of listening, it'll sound good for classical.
The only problem might be repair as they're a japanese company and they don't have a lot of repair places over here. -

Registered 7 years agoI used to have a Marantz amp, and was happy with it. And I think the classical sound is the most important to me.
Mr Sleep and Crispy - do you have any links to vendors for around the £400 mark? I'd probably want to buy new, rather than venture into eBay territory. -
Kandy 3 is around £400, any old MF at £400 will be awesome.

Looks aren't all that, but the sound they produce is absolutely incredible.

Registered 7 years agoBump.
New amp arrived (NAD c355 BEE) and I'm pretty happy with it. So wondered whether you lot thought of the benefits of the following:
Bi-wiring: Pointless fucking about, or cheap improvement?
New connects: ditto
Pre-amping: ditto again
New cables: same again
Help me, EG hive mind. -
Bi-wiring - not sure. I THINK it helps with driver separation, but that could just be the effort of running two lots of cable talking.
New connects - Anything that's better than the freebie cables you get with your components is good enough. Don't get mugged into spending loads on cables, it's pointless.
Pre-amping - Never tried it myself, but my mate's system sounds the nuts. Rotel pre-amp controlling two fuck-off power-amps driving B&W floorstanders. -
