Another 7 years in prison and forever barred from holding public office...To be added to the already 4 years he has over his head...
Of course this is Italy and as such until we get to the highest court of appeals he won't do time...
So that's 7 years in 1st degree and 4 years in 2nd degree (2 separate trials)...Hope at least one makes it to third and we let him rot in prison...
How many Italian 'years in jail' to you have to be sentenced to before you actually go to jail?
Any number will do, but they only take effect if the accused doesn't go into appeal or if the sentence is given at the highest court of appeals...
Of course if it takes too long for the highest court to pass judgement then, hey presto, you're not guilty! (though with some special legal jargon you're not innocent either)...
It's a stupid system, handmade by the very people who should be behind bars in the first place...
Yesterday's sentence has finally made a difference...This being the first time he's been found guilty of something at the highest level of courts we have...All other times the statute of limitations expired or he was found innocent or he simply changed the law so that what he did wasn't a crime anymore...
Also, if you liked that how about some idiot defenders of his mishearing the sentencing yesterday and cheering their poor ignorant asses off:

He's such a cunt. Such a shamelessly criminal cunt, cheating the system for a decade and more by misusing political immunity (not to mention there's no way any politician should have such control of the media; it's bad enough Murdoch's malign influence on this country).
He always seemed so smug about it all too.
I hope he dies in jail (and it's fairly unusual for me to feel that way about anyone).

I hope he lives for a while in jail, if you know what I mean.

Someone needs to send him the customary bar of soap.
Otherwise, corrupt bastard finally getting his comeuppance. Taken far too long but hey, it happened in the end.
Just a shame he won't go down quietly. Although I guess it will be rather amusing to see what happens next.
