    I remember a time when I would have been ecstatic about a Sega / tri-Ace cooperation. :-/

Oh, it's got it's own thread. I'll repeat what I said in the general RPG one:-

That does look like just the sort of thing i'd be into but I'm not touching anything with Tri-Ace on it until someone one here has actually played it and liked it!

    :(

tri-Ace are... er... ace! One less than stellar game (possibly two) and all of a sudden they're written off?!

Out of all their games, the only ones I've liked have been VP2 and SO3. To be fair I liked them a lot, though.

There were things I loved about Radiata Stories, just not the 'game' bit. Infinite Undiscovery and the latest Star Ocean can fuck right off!

I'll admit it's their most recent two games that seem like they're on a bit of a slide, but if I've got faith in anyone putting together a great, fun battle system for an RPG, it's them, so I'm not too worried about the description of this game so far.

If they can make the characters/dialogue a lot less irritating and childish than their recent games then it looks like something I'd enjoy. VP2 proves that they can do a lot better in that regard.

Before you go writing off tri-ace, remember they've also recently made Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume and while many of you probably haven't played that yet, it is an impressive, strong game and easily the best of their three recent ones.

Well, I also thought Infinite Undiscovery didn't reach its potential, but I don't seem to hate ti as much as other people do. (Part of this might be because I played a version of the game where the voice acting is okay, but I'm sure a part is also that I'm very tolerant and overall open-minded about all kinds of gameplay ideas and that game sure did have all kinds.)

Star Ocean 4 was quite the turd. Luckily this new one looks nothing like it.

They sure have increased their output recently; they must have expanded like Tales Studio and Level 5.

    Yes! Emphatically.

Though it's not necessarily just because of their most recent releases, there have been a lot of niggles that gamers have been turning a blind eye to in their games for years.

After a couple of less than satisfactory games the blinkers are gone. They'll be under the microscope now.

Well, if I had to put faith in a battle system creator, it would be the team that worked on the Blue Dragon one.

I liked the Valkyrie Profile 2 battle system. Didn't Tri-Ace make that game?

Name dropping Valkyria Chronicles has got me interested at least. It all sounds good on paper, depends how things work from an end user perspective though.

    Starting to sound promising.

    -Edit-

Wow, I love the look of that world - Implausible giant tower city FTW!

Also, who did that music? Doesn't sound much like Sakuraba but very, very good all the same.

    -Edit AGAIN-

Just realised what it reminds me of; Junkyard from DDS!

It's really funny how the oldest and most venerable team at tri-ace, the one that put them on the map is the only one who couldn't handle appropriate character design. Even the Valkyrie Profile: Covenant team made more appealing-looking characters on the DS then Star Ocean 4 had.

And of course, End of Eternity's character design looks fine.

It's really good that their setting it only inside the city, like Asgard, Ys or Suikoden, RPG plots can show some progress when they limit their settings to a specific area. Though I can't shake the uncanny similarity of the setting to that of Ar Tonelico's, I'm guessing it's more of Okami/Twilight Princess thing then outright reference or stealing.

I have a feeling they really weren't happy with the kind of decisions Square Enix was framing them in with some of their recent games.

Even though I had a little whinge in the comments section about the whole religion bashing being dragged up again in a jrpg, these snippets about the game itself make it sound like one of the more interesting HD console games in development by Japanese developer.

As Jin suggested I do hope the screens are proof they will stay well away from the designs and attitudes present in Ar Tonelico and Star Ocean 4.

The style looks about as far from Ar Tonelico as you can get:)

About the only similarity is the big tower and that's a baby compared to the continent-sized one in AT!

Watched the trailer and I loved the music used in it. The City Scraper and the birds-eye view of the city has a appeal as Scimirad puts it 'FTW'.

I'm happy that it's limited to the city, because as Persona 3 and 4 shows, a lot of things can happen in the city. Whereas in other JRPG, once you leave the city after you complete something important, it becomes boring and uninteresting... with the same people repeating the same lines.

And guns? Now I'm interested. Beats the usual swords slashing (though I wouldn't mind having a sword player).

As for Tri-Ace being shit, I think it's something to do with Square-Enix and their picky decisions. Platinum Games has expressed that they are glad with Sega because they let them go crazy with their imagination. Basically, the creativity is very high and flexible. We could say that Tri-Ace might succeed with this one.

    Hmm, interesting.

I just hope it's more Star Ocean than Infinite Undiscovery.

I'm hoping it's more Valkyrie Profile 2 than either SO4 or IU considering they were both shite...

Sakuraba's back by the sound of it. I wonder if the music on the website was his - Definitely didn't sound like it.

Heh, so having finally got the Famitsu that this was "revealed" in, I see SEGA are looking to push this just a *little* bit, judging by the 10 page advert than ran at the front of the magazine.
