    Outta the blue!

I hope this leads to a resurgance of long forgotten IPs. Colony Wars, Wonderboy etc etc.

Apparently this news is old. I even commented on it at the time. But I can barely remember what I did this morning, so that's probably okay.

Hooray! Just make it more like Syndicate 1 than 2, please.

Oh please let it be good, I fear for it being a Gears of War style shooter with the name tacked on.

No bloody FPS. No bloody TPS. Just do a really tidy 3D version of the original with multiplayer squad based stuff as well as a decent single player game, and it could end up being golden.

Can't help but wish Rockstar were doing it and not Starbreeze.

I used to do that anyway. Not the most subtle of approaches... 200 people charging towards you, all armed with minguns. And airstrikes. Nuke everything. The MP was really good too - using the civilian cloak to wander right up.

That would be a real shame.

In my head it plays like Rebelstar with direct control of the characters. Multiplayer for up to 6 players co op, squad based. Absolutely positively HAS to have that harsh neon cyberpunky bladerunner feel or the deal's off. Fuck chunky space marine armour, we want trenchcoats and miniguns and shades.

Depends if they do a 3D version that retains that sort of top-down-rotateable view from the PS1 versh, but heavily heavily update the graphics / engine

It might work. Starbreeze did OK with The Darkness and Riddick but this...hmm...As I said, wish it was Rockstar North working on it.

Since it is hitting the consoles, a Halo Wars control system might work

Don't be silly, you're not giving up.
    It's not worth it, man.

I don't think the visuals will be as lovely as the first, 3D in strategy games seems to make things look messy. It's the same with modern RTS games, the latest 3D RTS extravaganzas look, to me, uglier than the nice detailed visuals of something like Red Alert 2.

There's no way on this earth that team would be able to do anything forced-perspective.

Not in this day and age.

I'd prefer a 3D mode, but something a long the lines of the Rainbow Six/Band of Brothers series, perhaps with FO3's wonderful VAT system, wouldn't be too bad.

Yeah it'll never happen, I just miss the beautiful detailed visuals of the first Syndicate.

I don't see anything wrong with it being a third person shooter.

I played Syndicate on Megadrive and Wars on PS1, so to me the game always involved directly controlling an agent and if anything it was the natural predecessor to games like Rainbow 6 today.

I'd want something that plays a bit like Rainbow 6, with missions being less linear and encompassing full city areas, the important factors then being good use of the Persuadertron, squad tactics, the variety of weapons from Syndicate Wars and the R&D / management element for new weapons and agent enhancements. Oh and go back to the original setting and call it a remake rather than a sequel, none of that church nonsense from Wars.

    Ditto.

Steo, I think as a third person shooter it'd pretty much lose everything that made it Syndicate. Top down perspective with all the squad in view would work a lot better but s'long as it retains the variety of missions, the upgrade paths and the various stylish weapons and bio-upgrades it could be alright I spose.

Agreed on the "fuck Syndicate Wars" stuff too. That was a travesty.

Now EA are doing this, all we need is a new Road Rash game from Criterion and a new Desert Strike game from anyone other than Pandemic :)

What about a 50 Cent Desert Strike? Ride into battle on a gold-plated AH64.
