I also cannot believe they haven't done a meaningful redesign to the pad.

The sticks are still arse and the only new addition in the trigger is a very awkward compromised version of triggers.

As others have said it cramps my hands up after a while too.

Anyone care to link to that adapter?

I like the dual shock and switched from the 360 pad without much trouble. I havent had anything to blame the pad for since i got it, but we all have a go to excuse. Mine is lag.

    I blame it for everything.

I'm always amazed that they have used the same basic pad design since the PS1 days. I'm also like to remind myself that without the backlash, Sony would have unleashed the "batarang" on us.

I find the DS3 more comfortable to hold than the 360 pad as I have small hands. DS3 does suck for CoD4, but for most games it seems fine.

The only time I struggle with the PS3 pad is on FPS as it screws up my reaction times. For anything else I don't have too much of a problem with it. Also I quite like how light the sixaxis controller is and sometimes use it over the DS3.

Act like a dumbshit and they will treat you as an equal

    DS3 is far from gash.
While it's nowhere near as good a controller as the 360 controller the DS3 is a vast improvement on the previous ones (which were indeed gash). The weight is good, they have tightened up the sticks (positioning is still all wrong though), the d-pad is good, the triggers though oh dear, dead zones are still annoying.
Pretty much what I'd say. Although I don't suffer from cramp when I use it thankfully :)

I must be the only person around that loves the triggers on the DS3. I'd give anything to have triggers like that on the 360. I love that they give more resistance the more you press them, the feedback is nice. I find myself watching a movie on the PS3 and just holding the controller squeezing the triggers, they feel so good. Much better than the flappy triggers on the 360 pad.

I don't like the triggers on the 360 pad, they're so thin and crappy! I used to sing the praises of the old xbox controller but having used a 360 at chrimbo the difference is no-where near as clear cut as it was made out to be in my mind. I actually prefer the sticks being level with each other too.

The Sony controllers have always been too small for my liking (i do have large hands) and hoped they would at least do a newer design with the ps3. ah well. i keep knocking my thumbs together with the bloody sticks. And why cant they dimple the end of the sticks so my thumbs dont slip off....

Much prefer the 360 controllers, although admittedly they can get a bit heavy after prolonged use and the D-pad is a bit naff.

Is there really a 360 controller converter type thingy for the ps3? that would be funky.

whats wrong with you people? lol. the PS3 pad is vastly superior. The only advantage ive seen in the 360 controller is it really pumps up the biceps when playing for long periods as it weighs so damn much. Decided to turn on the PS3 for a bit of KZ2 after playing L4D on the xbox for a few hours and I had to double check I was holding the pad it weighs so little.

The 360 pad is like a shoe box

    I really wish i'd got SF4 on the PS3 now too :(

I can't get over the fact that Sony chose NOT to alter the design. The analogue sticks were shoehorned onto the old controller and even then I thought that was shit. Seven odd years with my PS2 haven't changed that thought for a second, and my rather painful left thumb concurs.

The 360 shits over it from a great, great height. Hell, so does the N64 pad.

They did alter the design. Everyone complained so they changed it back.

Doing a bad redesign doesn't make the original any better.
The left analog stick is still in the wrong place and triggers are still clumsy.
Things that the "Batterang" diden't even fix, they just made it a bitt more curvy.

    Did you use it then?

The analog stick is not in the wrong place. There is no right place for the analog stick.

It would appear that buying a Sony console changes the physical properties of a person's hands. I can't come up with any other reason as to why people defend the DS in this day and age. Back in the day they were an awesome controller, but that was only relatively speaking, because no one had made something that bettered it. That's not the case now.

there's nothing wrong with the DShock. It's only when you are used to a 360 controller that it feels odd. It's equally odd going from a DS3 to the 360 controller.

I like them both to be honest. I just wish MS would release a USB charging version with a revised dpad.

They can't do much with the d-pad, can they? I don't know how true it is, but Nintendo have a patent on their d-pad, and Sony have a patent on theirs, which means Microsoft don't really have anywhere they can go with regards to d-pad designs.

    That's stupid. What's the difference between Ninty's and Sony's?

If that's the case then I agree. Not much that can be done. Surely they can make it so you can select left, right or up and down without going off diagonally.

Yes, they managed it with the xbox pad... so I can't see why they can't manage it now.

I don't mind it so much, the flappy arse sticks are a headache for shooters though. 360 pads are head and shoulders over it in that regard. And they aren't well placed imo.

I think the DS is a mile better. But I like were the sticks and buttons are and the xbox pad annoys me because of that.

MS's pad is fine though, certainly not ZOMG BEST PAD EVER!!1 though.
