It's not funny, and it's not poetic either. It's just painfully hip, and it's not even that hip.

That was very good. More of this show please.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

It was, I snorted several times, especially about the condom exacerbating his AIDS... ;)

In contrast that poetry bit is so incredibly painful to watch I actually took the effort to lean forward, put my hand on my mouse and move the timeline forward 5 minutes in order to completely avoid giving him any of my time whatsoever. Unbelievably talentless. Why is he on this show still???

Probably a personal friend of Brooker's - there is a guy who crops up in some of the filmed stuff for Screenwipe and now Newswipe who set up TV Go Home with Brooker.

I liked him on Cowards and We Want Answers, but yeah never been a fan of his poetry.

Finally got around to seeing it, fantastic stuff.

Another vote against Tim Key here, I've no idea why he's on the show. I'd guess that because the rest of the show is done at such breakneck speed, he's there to give us a breather. Well, he does just that, since whenever he's on screenwipe (and now this) I use his appearance as an opportunity to go and make a cup of tea or something.

That Peter Oborne segment was superb, even down to the use of the music from Adam Curtis', 'Power of Nightmares'.

I forgot too. Just caught the end segment reflecting on the Jade Goody saga. A pretty good overview of the whole situation.

Another great episode. Nail-on-head stuff from Charlie once again.

Heh, is this the "I missed Newswipe" thread, or something?

You know what? It was fantastic. Best thing I've ever seen. After I finished it I rang Charlie to tell him and he told me that it was so amazing he wasn't going to let it be repeated anywhere, just so it was special for me.

Just watched it on iPlayer. Brilliant stuff, it's a real shame he has to be hidden away on BBC4 where 10 people will watch it, and the rest will either forget it was on, or simply be completely unaware of its existence.

The Jade Goody section was a brilliant overview of the whole circus.

What can I say? The man's spot on.

The man's a genius. The first 5 minutes absolutely brilliant.

"Instead of offering a factual summary from which we can form opinions, the media takes our opinions to incorporate them into their factual summaries."

I thought that was very nicely put. The whole piece on how fucking infuriatingly chummy/sensationalist some of the news channels have become was spot on.

The Oborne interview was great too, if mildly frightening. And the Goody piece was a very nice summary of the whole thing.

I just find it amazing how he's able to produce such insightful perspectives on the news in such a quick time frame, all the while being incredibly funny. The bluntness of his disdain for some people is hilarious, ie: Carole Malone and the bloke on The Wright Stuff.

    Top, top stuff.

It's a brilliant programme, no doubt about it. Having just watched the two episodes in backwards order, it does seem that that the poetry is the weakest link. Not terrible, but not that funny either.

I did kind of get the feeling Brooker kept wanting to say "But... I did hate her" during the whole Jade thing. But yeah, it was a very grounded and spot on summary of the whole affair.

I'm glad someone finally picked up on that wretched whore Carole Malone and her ridiculous level of hypocrisy which just stinks of desperate attention seeking.

Anyone know what the music they used in the background of the Snowmen/News bit was?

I thought this episode was much better than the first. Not that I disliked the first...
  • Deleted user 6 April 2009 19:27:57
Yes. And at the same time... no. Annoyingly.

    Love that Paxman clip.
