Obviously, there's the cash. But with that said many of these artists aren't exactly poor, and most of them had their own successful bands going anyway.

I guess it is just a bit representative of a lack of originality in the music scene at the moment.

In recent times, and just a few off the top of my head... Blur, Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More, Vision of Disorder, Alice in Chains, Skin, Snot, The Pharcyde (albeit temporarily), Bone Thugs (all 5), Limp Bizkit (sigh) and now Stone Roses, Sunny Day Real Estate and (most disturbingly of all), Sublime are all looking very likely to reunite (or in Sublime's case, utilise a new singer, something I am totally against).

    Who is next? Kyuss? Refused?

    Getting ridiculous.

Recession. They wants more monies and they've seen a gravy train they can jump on.

If only Talking Heads would reform for one last tour...

Chances of that happening : none.

I probably fall in with the ignorant crowd. I didn't even know half of these bands split up in the first place. Therefore when I hear the new stuff, and like it, I could get interested in the original/old stuff, so it's not necessarily all ridiculous.

If anyone with sufficient points in necromancy can get together the Rat Pack again, I'll be happy.
  • Deleted user 17 March 2009 16:28:56
Nowt to do with lack of originality, there's still plenty of that around if you look. It's just cash, pure and simple. The lure of the lira!

Butler's little rant about this and saying musicians should be looking to the future to quite enjoyable, especially as the Tears are just a weaker Suede.

I'm not sure, but one of them dying pretty much ended it. In my mind, at least. :)

I find it hard to get excited about Pharcyde reforming as their last couple of albums were shite. Fingers crossed they might remember how to be good.

How can bands get together with a completely different singer and carry on as if nothing has happened? I never understood that. Do they just pick someone who looks and sounds exactly like the original? And if not, then surely it becomes a completely different band?

No, I just plain ignored them.

Exactly. That's why I'm not a fan of the Snot, AiC and probable Sublime 'reunions'. Just doesn't seem right.

To be fair, their last couple of albums were done with 3 of the 4 (Plain Rap), and then 2 of the original 4 (Humboldt Beginnings). They're currently all back together and playing the odd show.

Oh I am very, very aware that there are plenty of bands with some originality about them out there. Probably more than a lot of people.
Maybe I should have said in the popular music scene (admittedly some of the bands I listed wouldn't full under that as they weren't that successful)

How could I forget. To be fair they've gone on hiatus and reunited more than once.

This. People they've had singing with them in recent years just won't be the same.

I'd still go see them - but it won't be AiC and they know it; it'd be the guys from AiC and a mate on vocals.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

I don't care too much for reunions but RATM last year at Reading was like 92102109 orgasms in my trousers at once. Blur at Hyde Park promises to be brilliant too, so it's worked out quite well for me.

They've had one for ages. William DuVall. I saw them play live with him back in 06.

He is a good singer, don't get me wrong. And I know the rest of the band are still there and Cantrell wrote a lot of the music and lyrics anyway. But still... Staley was special.

Sleep have reformed but only for a few shows, though that could have changed. On why bands reform? It could be the cash or it could be some members have matured and the problems are addressed. I personally never looked upon Blurs' break up as nothing more than a hiatus. Kyuss is a definate no no. Thank god.
