    Rare collectors' item, Dave? :D

I saw a French-language interview with one of the TDU & TDU2 design leads the other day, got all excited for a second at the prospect of beans spilt then realised it was from before TDU2 came out.

If Atari / Namco are doing a "classics" version then that might explain £15 for an original.

I'm definitely rebuying it in time for the anniversary, even though at the same time I despise myself for rebuying it, in a hair shirt kind of way.

This has been at the back of my mind the last few weeks and I would really quite like to get some Friday night driving on again. Maybe even a porn style photo shoot in someone’s garage as well.

I wonder how the casino is getting on.

I keep picking it up off the shelf whenever I'm in Game and then putting it back down. £12.99 is too much if we're just going to do a drunk lap of the islands one Friday night and get bored.

This is a very similar rationale to why I don't have it yet, too.

It's not the risk of getting bored that is putting me off, it's the risk of it reminding me that the reason that I got rid of it in the first place was that it was a terminally shit pile of steaming shit.

You just can't put a price on that.

and to this day it's still a steaming pile of shit, however you are also aware there is a very good game in there but well you know the score on that already.

@Daddy-Doom-Bar - if you don't like it, don't play it. I've not come across any major issues. It's not as if it's as bad as Skyrim was on release, yet people raved over that one.
AWTFAY? Who pulled your chain? If you've not come across any major issues, then either you didn't play it on release like we all did, or you've not played it enough. Skyrim was perfect compared to TDU2. I do love the game, but face it - it's fucked and always will be.

@Daddy-Doom-Bar - I had the game *before* release date and I've completed everything on Ibiza and moved on to Oahu, so I've certainly put some time in. Your experience seems to differ from mine, clearly. My point - not well-made, perhaps - is that no-one's forcing to play the game if you don't want to.

But I do want to and never said I didn't. And I think your experience differs from just about everyone else here.

Of course, those that don't want to re-buy but would still fancy an anniversary island hoon could try renting it out instead.

Now, who's up for a game of Guess The Price Of The Bikes DLC...

I did rent it. It proved I was right not to buy it, but to be fair it's a pretty unique game and I couldn't recommend a game that quite matches its ambition. Still, if you want an actual game stick to PGR4, Driver:SA or even one of the Codies menufucked shits.

Grabbed the 360 version from Sainsbury's last night for £8 new.

Already got the PC version last year for not much more, but hardly played it.

Why do I do this to my bank balance - surely this money should be going in a savings account!

When's this reunion on for, then?

Is it really worth having a reunion for it though? To me looking back all it represents is a game that has lots of nice ideas but completely ruined by crappy implementation and total lack of thinking through any of the gameplay mechanics.

The worst thing of all though is that all they really had to do was copy pretty much what paradise city did just with real cars and a real place and that would of been enough. But they bit off far more then they could chew and simply didn't have the money, time or talent to pull off what they were aiming to do.

Can anyone tell me how you get to buy a motorbike in this game. I can't find a dealer that sells them anywhere. I hear you have to go to every car shop on the map to get them unlocked. It isn't working for me if so.

@Pazie - motorbikes won't be available until the next DLC comes out.

My usual technique is to go to the Test Drive Unlimited 2 forums (forums.testdriveunlimited2.com), check the stickies and the dev tracker to see if there's any more info on the motorbike DLC being released, and then go back to waiting for more information "soon".

That reminds me, at the time of release there was a rumour that a magical garden gnome could be found if you managed to glitch behind the one roadside waterfall.

There was never any proof, nor any clue in the original post as to where the waterfall might be, but other players created maps and screenshots to pinpoint it and, apparently, if you went there during the early weeks at least, the location was rammed with players unsuccesfully attempting to glitch their way behind the waterfall.

Heh, that article on entitlement certainly made me think of this shitbag of a game, too.

I think I might try and pick it up today.

When is the new furniture-and-clothing patch out, again? Is it this week, or is it 'COMING SOON' in some unspecified timeframe that will end up being August?

Yeah dude, I think you focused a bit too much on one aspect of it. People who hate TDU2 because it was a bug-ridden car crash weren't really the target, imho.

I know. It wasn't exactly a great example. But it was that one point about the article that got me annoyed. I hate so much that there's a lot of people who consider themselves outside the general public. Mostly journalists. I probably shouldn't have written it right away. But, then I'm not one for keeping my mouth shut.

I love TDU2 even though it was a 'car crash' of a game, because it's got soul. Same with BFBC2. It had problems but I love it. BF3 however, seems to have lost its soul.

But anyways, Eden should never have released it in the state it was in. Same with Skyrim. I pay my money and expect it to work as they say it should. And that's not because I'm some spoilt brat who watches too much X-Factor ( I hate it!), it's because when I'm sold something on a promise, I want that promise fulfilled. Same with a series of games. Someone made the comment that if they'd have sold HL1&2 and told everyone they weren't going to make a third and they were just going to leave it hanging, how many people would have bought it and loved it so much? Would the devs have gotten the same amount of love and support they've seen over the years? No. Is that societies fault? No. It's the devs fault. It's mis-selling (whatever the word is) a product under false promises.

And then for that idiot journalist to turn around and say 'shut you're whinging holes you bunch of spoilt consumers of which I am far too high and mighty to be considered as low as'. He can fuck right off.

I think I'd agree if I'd interpreted it that way, but I'm not sure I did. This separation of developers, gamers and journalists can be responsible for some miscommunication, but I liked that the broader issues could be touched on in his article, even though really he was having a dig at people who signed a Half-Life 3 petition.

Anyway, massive derail, that made me read the article again, and I'm pretty sure that even though it's in danger of being read the way you read it, I'm sure that's not what he meant!

TDU2 still a broken mess that I'm itching to find a way to re-buy, so that in itself just proves there's more to the entitlement issue than can be covered in a Saturday Soapbox article.

    :)
