I guess it's inevitable this is going to happen. It's the same when large businesses move their buiness overseas to take advantage of much lower wages, only now businesses will take advantage of migrants coming over here (if they can get away with it).

I reckon anyone that links to a story from any newspaper should be shot in the face, and the newspaper headquarters and journalists all be put in the stocks as they are all liars.

It's a confused article. It mixes Britain being asked to accommodate more asylum seekers by the EU (with an implicit swipe at EU for meddling in our affairs etc) and moves seamlessly to discussing illegal immigrants seeking to work illegally in this country and ruin our economy. It moves seamlessly from one xenophobic stance to another.

Britain was always a racist country. It's sad to see the economic times are exacerbating the situation. Not surprising, and of course going on all around the world, but still, it's depressing. Especially when a supposedly left-leaning government is busily stirring the pot.

It's odd, because I'm sure I saw an article the other day saying how immigration was down and many people were leaving.

where wages as low as £2 an hour are already undercutting British workers on the national minimum wage of £5.73.

What jobs are these then? Anybody employing illegal immigrants is not likely to be running a legit business, and if the only work you can find is with a dodgy bloke paying cash in hand, then you have other problems.

Apparently that are something like 20 million illegal mexicans working in america. That's a whole underclass with lower legal status working for lower wages, businesses are obviously willing to break the law if it means more profits. Greed tends to win out, unless the penalties become too severe.

We know that Britain offers free accommodation and food, but we also want to work. We are certain we’ll get to Britain. It’s easy. All we have to do after that is start earning.”

That's generous, you're assuming the Express writer didn't just make that up. I figured that when they say they're in France they've actually gone to Pret A Manger with a laptop.

THE spectre of £1-an-hour foreign workers is coming to haunt recession-hit Britain.

That is the amount thousands of migrants queueing up to enter the country illegally are prepared to work for rather than having to return home.

Fucking yes! Finally I get to have servants. \o/

    Quite.

A foaf who employs a relative from india as a nanny has to now pay her minimum wage, so these £1/hr job are going to very limited and well dodgy, assuming they exist at all. The article actually says they are willing to work for £1, not that these jobs actually exist.

I read a book about the conditions that Chinese illegal workers endure in the UK.
The people who organise them (get them the jobs on farms/restaurants etc, the gangmasters) may receive minimum wage for them, but they see very little of that.

Maybe that's what the £ refers to....

Is there not going to be a big problem soon with the exodus of Eastern Europeans? They might have to actually force some of the unemployed who turn their nose up at low paid jobs to work to ensure Tescos can still pay the food producers bugger all.
