I've just come across this again on the internet, having listened recently to one of my supposed superiors at work give a talk on several topics including the "central tenants" of what our service provides.

Now I've just read on an economics forum about the central tenants of US capitalism.

IT'S FUCKING TENET YOU FUCKING MORONS.

    TENET IS LATIN

YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT AND THEREFORE USE THE WORD TENANT WHICH SOUNDS SIMILAR

TENANT IS SOME BLOKE RENTING YOUR FLAT

Mother of christ, this is probably the most anger inducing thing I know. I know why they do it, it's because they never studied Latin, and so a word like Tenet wouldn't make much sense, but also because they are obviously so poorly read that they have never seen repeated correct use in English.

So they substitute with tenant, as if to say that "your core topic - i.e., the place where people would like to rent out - is on x, y, z". It's so stupid, and yet it continues.

Huh, over here it's 'naar de mensen toe'( badly translated 'towards the people/populace') which gets on my nerves. It's mostly used by politicians. The correct thing would be 'voor de mensen' ('for the people').

That one annoys me more that most. Only because I can't say specific so I always end up say pacific. Don't have trouble saying any other words either which is strange. Never type it wrong though.

"Intensive purposes" makes me want to punch people. Also terrible: the proliferation of "rediculous". What would the corresponding verb be, to redicule? Think! Gnah.

I'm trying to fink of a few phrases that annoy me. It's quite addicting.
