    Dear EG,

Try as I might, there are only so many times I can resist starting an "I love you guys" thread. Now seems as good a time as any to cave.

    I love you guys*.

Happy Valentines, EG Staff. Happy Valentines, EGers.
I hope something good happens for each of you today.

    *(Gender inclusive)

    /retires to bed

I've so far received two anonymous valentines. What the fuck is the point if there's no clue as to who they're from?

I get a card every year from my mum. She denies all knowledge but can't disguise her handwriting. I used to feel embarrassed about it when I was younger but now I think it's quite sweet.

I still have one that was given to me about 7-8 years ago by my friend, we had fallen out and she used Valentines day to give me a card to let me know that she loved me and needed me in her life. Sure it wasn't a girlfriend type one, but it's still the best thing ever and importantly, honest.

I've had one card in my life...I don't expect one this year.

I hate Valentine's Day, it's a day for couples to not give shit about and singletons to get shit on.

I hate Valentines Day and I hate how most women think it's important. Fucking bullshit commercial holiday.

The holiday isn't important, but your significant other is.
So for me, it's like, even if you both* hate the holiday, you don't want your loved one to be the only one sitting there without flowers or something thoughtful, so it's kinda of like, just go along with it, but never utter its name, ha!

plus I'm sure they would love getting something from you any day, so it might as well be V-Day..
    unfortunately :p (I think it's stupid too)

I would get them something *shrugs* and then bitch with them afterward about how much you wish the holiday was quartered and hanged.

    aanyways
Happy V-Day EG, hope you get laid :D

Well isn't that the thing? If you blow it off, women somehow think it's about them, when in reality it's more to do with you realising what a stupid Hallmark holiday it is.

But you can't be insensitive to the fact that although you both loathe the holiday, she's gonna be sitting there the only one, not even a little note.

She might not really care about the silly commercial-ness, but she sure will care when she's the only one whose bf doesn't give a fuck :p
punish the holiday and everyone else, not her :p

On a lighter note, I had a teacher telling V-Day jokes in class. Made me wanna vomit :p

I agree completely with your sentiment there, but am still against celebrating this commercial holiday.

Not doing so only becomes a problem, IMO of course, if it's the only occasion during the year where you'd try to do something special. Too much hinges on this day for too many people when any relationship should already be a series of thoughtful gestures and occasional surprises.

If you both loathe the holiday then you really shouldn't be hypocrites. She's either against it, in which case she won't be worried about not appearing to get anything (seriously though... not everyone gets something in work anyway) or she's not, and she shouldn't be pretending to loathe the holiday. :)

Exactly. V-Day is important for a lot of people only because they're utterly incapable of treating their better half right for the rest of the year.
