    +1

If you want disgusting gore I've yet to see anything surpass Cannibal Holocaust. There's something about 70's horror blood that makes me queesy. On that note. I remember seeing some old horror film with some strange flying metall balls and clockwork robots.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

    Village of the Damned
Children of the Corn? ( Haven't seen it for such a long time, can't remember if it's gory )

It's slightly dated but the old TV series Sapphire and Steel used to spook me out as a kid.

Another vote for some of the old Hammer and Twilight Zone episodes.

edit: the film with the metal balls was probably Phantasm.
edit2: Wolf Creek will shit you up good.

The Ruins is okay, if a little silly.

It's not a splatter movie, but it's a really bad film in its own right. Don't bother.

glaeken wrote:Wolf Creek would definitely fall into the Hostel/Saw genre and so not be what the OP was looking for.
See, I didn't think it was like those - yes, there's a couple of nasty bits, but they're actually pretty brief and not actually the focus of the film unlike the aforementioned. To me it was all about ratcheting up a really apprehensive sense of tension and familiarising yourself with the characters which cleverly made the sparingly-used violence, when it did happen, seem worse than it was.

It can be pretty unsettling, as intended, but I'd argue against it being lumped in the 'torture porn' category.

Wolf Creek isn't a gorno for sure.

The Shining, if it hasn't been mentioned. Great film.

    The Exorcist
    Exorcist III
    Session 9
    The Changeling
    The Shining
    The Orphanage
The Eye (original Hong Kong release)

Don't think there's anything gruesome in those.

Otherwise, The Thing is outstanding if you can stomach it. REC is really worth a watch. 28 Days/Weeks Later. 30 Days of Night. Evil Dead 2, Dawn of the Dead (and, yes, I prefer the Zack Snyder remake).

My Little Eye and the Blair Witch Project are both fucking atrocious, in my opinion.

Zombie Diaries is honestly very bad, I really wouldn't bother with it at all. If you're looking for zombie movies I'm sure I can conjure up many recommendations that are worth watching over that one.

Evil Dead 2 is just fantastic. Just don't take it seriously.

The Fog is pretty lame except for Adrienne Barbeau.

    The Mist however is excellent.

Go on, recommend Jeepers Creepers :)

I thought Wolf Creek (WC? lol!) wasn't a great film but i think it's worth a watch. I remember the ending having an affect on me.

The Descent is awesome... Damn it, forgot to mention Dog Soldiers. And you can have Event Horizon for the pile as well.

Bugger it... A Tale of Two Sisters. Can't believe they've remade that as The Uninvited (out in the US now.)

Silver Bullet isn't scary - but it is good fun.

Are there any genuinely 'fuck you up so you sleep with the lights on for a week' horror films around anymore?

    I'm not talking about:

    -Goreporn
    -Rednecks in the hills/woods/desert
-"J-horrors" with silly little backward moving emo ghosts
-Something that scared you as a kid but is laughably bad by modern standards

    Try Session 9

Nope. Horror films are like Christmas.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (70s version) is genuinely disturbing but conforms to your second category.

Yes it is called The Changeling with George C Scott, even if you have watched it, watch it again;)
