    From the Highway Code:

"On all journeys, the rider and pillion passenger on a motorcycle, scooter or moped MUST wear a protective helmet. This does not apply to a follower of the Sikh religion while wearing a turban."

Magic. Unlucky if you come off without a helmet on, you spanner!

That is so utterly fucking retarded that it defies belief.

    DEFIES IT.

Though to be fair I can't see a way around it.

    Get bent.

The state I live in allows people to ride motorcycles without helmets. Totally brainless, just like a rider who comes off at 50 MPH and lands on their head.

This has been the case for about 30 years - no?

I've turned off all the avatars and crap, so don't expect me to be impressed by yours.

Yeah, this has always been the case. However... if they come off they're fucking dead - so they'd be daft to do it.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

/links to internet picture of a motorcyclist who's head was run over and didn't have a helmet, showing his brains squeezed out like toothpaste onto the road.

I'm sure if a car drove over your head you'd be toothpaste, helmet or no helmet. It's just a crumple zone for your head, not an impenetrable barrier.

It seems in spain that you do have to wear a helmet, but the law doesn't seem to go as far as to saying how the helmet must be worn.

So what's to stop anyone claiming they're a Sikh?

"Indeed I'm not wearing a helmet officer, I'm a Sahajdhari. I've just not got round to the beard growing bit."

They can't discriminate based on religion and tell you you aren't. Though I suppose for that to stick in court you'd have to wear a turban instead, and given the choice of pretending to be a Sikh or wearing a nice hard helmet, I'll take the later.

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

Couldn't believe it when I was driving round in the US and nobody was wearing a helmet. Basically makes any crash a death sentence.

It's actually a by-law that allows turban wearers to forego the use of a helmet. So it's only certain boroughs that allow it. It's a practicality issue, why are people so amazed about it?

You should see Thailand. 4 people on a bike. No crash helmet. Shorts and flip-flops.

In Delaware I've seen plenty of motorcyclists riding with their helmet stuck on the back of the seat while their head is completely unprotected.

And just to point out why helmets are important.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motogp/15420069.stm

"Italian rider Marco Simoncelli has died after a horrific crash at the Malaysian MotoGP in Sepang.

The race was stopped on lap two when Simoncelli's bike veered across the track at turn 11 into the path of Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.

The 24-year-old had his helmet knocked off and was hit by both other riders."

I'm obviously biased as I am selling one but you really can't go wrong with an SV. Mine will easily keep up with a ZX6r up to 110mph.

It's just as much fun in the twisty bits, much less likely to throw you in to a hedge/tree/roundabout/lampost and the insurance is cheap as chips.

130 top speed. 0-60 in less than 4 seconds and 100 isn't far behind that.
