About this time last year, I make a commitment to not spend more than 100 on games in 2012, although allowing my imminent Vita purchase to not count.

Having tracked my purchases though the year, my total is closer to 500, although 200 was the Vita and another 100 was the Borderlands 2 ultimate loot hunter chest edition.

But having taken a PS+ subscription out this year, I've not purchased a boxed PS3 game for more than 6 months ( except the aforementioned BL2). My main game spending has been on Vita titles (got about a dozen boxed titles), but the backlog is limited to:
    - NFS: MW - almost finished
    - Big Sky Infinity - PS+ free
    - Knytt Underground - PS+ free
    - Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath

Not bad at all, and the bulk of my spending in 2013 will be limited to Vita titles - Persona 4 Golden, EDF, Sly Cooper & the thieves of time, Soul Sacrifice etc

PS3 is a different matter entirely. The backlog is about the same size as last year (~ 20 titles), but then there's another 20 PS+ titles I've got to play. Certainly enough to keep me busy though 2013 - but then there's stuff like The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite to tempt me...

I find Vita purchases easier to justify; there's just more chance that I'll get around to playing them.

edit: in fact, Sonic racing thingy looks quite tempting...

    Approximate spending for 2012:

    GBA games - 80
    N64 Games - 40
    Dreamcast games - 40
    PS2 games - 120
    PS3 games - 280-300
    Wii games - 60-70

So a total in the region of 650. Offset against the total raised from selling games (Approx. 800-900) I ended up in the black.

I've been buying games during this Steam Sale to see me through 2013. I'm making a commitment to not buy any new games in 2013 outside of official Steam Sales.

Now this sucks because the only game I'm looking forward to is the Dark Arisen expansion for Dragon's Dogma. However I think giving myself a special dispensation is going against the spirit of things.

Got COD Black Ops II for Xmas but other than that the only game I've bought is Mass Effect 3, and that was used for 12.

I'm putting in an application for membership of this club. I have more than a enough to keep me busy for a good 6 months, possibly more. So I'm banning myself from buying anything until June.

Sorry Bioshock: Infinite, Tomb Raider, Company of Heroes 2, Metro 2033: Last Light and Devil May Cry, it's not you it's me.

    Portable view - Never forget.

That's how my console days used to go. Despite buying only bundles and cheap Steam stuff last year, it was probably my most costly year to date.

But then money's never the reason I enter into these "don't buy anything" periods - it's simply a method of trying to stop new content coming into the house when I already have *plenty* to keep me occupied

It's not brilliant, but it's one of those games you *will* play, so it's better than buying and not playing at all e.g. half of each and everyones steam libraries.

I've decided to tackle my backlog this year. I've set up a backloggery account, and I've gone through my collection, adding everything that I should play.

    Total unfinished: 122

Oh crap. I'd have to finish one game every three days to catch up, but that's not going to happen. There aren't any new games coming out this year, right?

Apart from a couple of xbla games I picked up in the end of year sale, I completed (or played until I'd had enough of) every game I bought in 2012. Even made a dent in the pre 2012 backlog. Hoping for more of the same in 2013.

I got quite a haul of games sitting here, from chrimbo and swaps etc. I'm determined to finish them before buying any more.

    Swaps don't count though right?

This year I'm gonna play the shit out of my backlog. Dark Souls is first on the list!

@joeymoto108 You are in for an absolute treat. Dark Souls was on my backlog last year and I managed to get to it around Septemeber.

Play it as much as you can without consulting walkthroughs/guides etc - it is a game to savour and explore and take your time with. The EG thread on it is very helpful if you want to get advice without spoiling the whole thing.

    Praise the sun!

I originally played it on Xbox, got not very far at all. Ran past a dragon and killed a giant pig thing using fire. Now I'm playing it on PC, and I've already gotten further than I did on Xbox. It's such a fun game.

Right then, like most of us are saying,2013 is the "year of the backlog"
With that in mind I started Witcher2. I have been tempted to buy new things daily however :)
I will be buying gears4, GTA V and Bioshock3 though. Also if we get the 720 this year, all bets are off ;)

The 2 out 1 in rule is going well so far. This week I've finished Halo 4 and Uncharted GA so I've preordered the new Sly Cooper for the vita. By next week I should have finished Blops 2 and Uncharched 3. Then it's time to start on some RPG's...

I'm definitely going to keep track of my gaming purchases this year and try to resist buying too many new games, even in sales.

That said, I've had Fate Extra CCC on preorder for ages now, since it keeps being pushed back, so I suppose that's quite an outlay on the horizon already...

I done well last year. Only picked up ssx and regretfully black ops 2 at full price, rest were sub 20 pound games apart from MK7.

I'm still playing okami hd from late oct, and mass effect 1 From early dec, so these should tie me over for a couple more weeks as i'm nearing completing both - as well as finishing up on saints row 3.

Got ni no kuni on pre-order - really want it and the only game i 'm excited for other than rayman legends, but quite a few games are now 15-25 quid so tempted to cancel it and pick up lego batman 2 or dishornoured or something instead. not sure what to do.

I thought I would ban myself from games for a while due to wanting to get gta.v and the latest gears of war on release. Failed already, after harping on to my mates about how good medal of honour and battlefield are, and how (i think) they are better than c.o.d. and being laughed at by the fanboys. I turn on my xbox on Saturday and get three invites to play war fighter and get told how good it is. Got limited edition from shopto, despatched today, just shy of twenty squid.

I have almost 30 unplayed games on Steam so I'm banning myself from further PC indulgence till the backlog is minimal.
No such intentions for the neglected PS3 as there's no way I'm not picking up Ni no Kuni, The Last of Us and Beyond.

I'll join this thread this year I think!

In terms of stuff I haven't even 'opened' yet, I currently have 16 boxed games unstarted, along with 10 XBLA games (admittedly all bought when on sale!) There are then another 3 or 4 biggish pieces of DLC untouched on top of that. I've also got a few games I'd like to replay, just to make it extra tricky!

I've got something like 2500 MSP knocking about anyway, as well as a few pounds of CEX credit so won't count that towards any spending in sales I might do.

Will see how I get on!
