After getting my latest Credit Card bill, looking at my general finances and the stack of unopened games at home, I've taken the step to ban myself from buying anything else for the next 6 months.

With some many gaming bargains in the run-up to Christmas I've got a stack of games at home - completely unopened:
    - No More Heroes
    - Zelda: Twilight Princess
    - Mario Kart DS
    - N+ done
    - Heavenly Sword
    - Bioshock
    - The Orange Box
    - The Club
    - Rock Band
    - Fallout 3
    - Eye of Judgement
    - MGS4

Added to the fact, I've got to finish God of War on the PSP(now done), start Tomb Raider Anniversary, extract more out of LBP, finish R2 and replay Uncharted with trophies, I just feel that anything else I buy will hit the bottom of the pile, or just mean that I never play something I already have.

This exact same thing happened with my PS2 - still have Ico and SotC unplayed, and have only done 10 mins on Psychonauts!

    Anyone else gonna join me?

    /Starts support Group

EDIT: Added Fallout 3. Oh, and EoJ. And MGS4!

I think someone had a very similar idea on here recently.

Anyway, I was mentioning the very same thing to my gf last night (about not buying any for another year - swaps are ok!).

I'm in. For 360 anyway, I've got my eye on one or two PSP games from the back catalogue.

I've done this. I have 45 of GAME vouchers from Christmas and I'm not going to spend them until I can dedicate time to a new game (or the games I have for that matter).

Still need to spend some time with GTA4 (only 10% in!!!), Fallout 3 (Only level 7!!), Tomb Raider U, Far Cry 2 (unopened), Guitar Hero World Tour.

No more game for me until I've completed those (maybe not Guitar Hero).

Yup, I did it myself. I played FO3 for a few hours, at Megaton but then got LBP, which I played for a few days. I went back to GTA IV before christmas and was hammering away quite well, it's really an absolutely excellent game, but i got distracted and am now "out of the GTA zone" again for a few months.

Meanwhile, went back to Warcraft after 3 months off it, and still have Bioshock and Forza 2 to finish. And Splinter cell DA and more games from 2007 that I swore I would finish in 2008. Oh yes, Wipeout HD as well, which is stunning, and everything I ever wanted in a Wipeout game: last played aroudn 2 months ago.

I banned myself from buying FarCry 2 even though I really really want it :(

I banned myself from playing it after playing it.

Great game, but what ever prat thought it would be a good idea to have respawning guard huts and baddies who start shooting at you for no reason, needs their head whacking with a bit of 2x4.

have a smallish stack of games to complete, so no buying more till I finish a few

or maybe if F.E.A.R 2 turns out to be good (which looks likely), then Dawn of war, then killzone 2...

I'm definitely in! I've got about four Xmas games still to play (as in, not started), and a pretty hefty backlog of started-but-not-finished games dating back years. So, as there aren't really any massive jobbies up ahead that I can think of (not till the autumn, anyway) I'm gonna try to get through at least half the year without buying any new games.

I've found an awesome technique for avoiding buying new games. It's called Fallout 3. :)

The idea's good in principle, but trying it out involves buying a new game ;-)

I'm going to have to unmarked the bargains thread from my interesting threads too!

I just bought a 360 from Zavvi. Too much of a bargain to walk away. I had this inner battle on the shop floor. Reason lost:)

Don't think I've ever had an unopened game for more than 2-3 days, and never ever more than 1 at a time.

I don't need to impose a ban on myself, the industry is taking care of that for me with it's extremely uninteresting games.

    I blame next-gen.

Agreed. Swaps don't really count as new games.

Already imposed this ban on myself at Christmas. Got a 360 + 5 games and I'm not getting any more until I've completed (or gotten irrevokably bored/stuck with) all of them.

Completed Mass Effect so far, moved on to Fable 2 and have got GoW + Gears 2 and Far Cry 2 to go.

At the moment I think only a 15 Fallout 3 could tempt me to break it.

There's nothing of great note on my want list at the moment so spent the money on a pair of monitor speakers and an external soundcard for my mac..

Don't go complicating things! I need a ready built get out clause should I opt in. ;)

I've banned myself from buying games for over a year now - and I still have a ton of PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, PC and GBA games to finish.

At the moment I'm having to work extremely hard to resist getting a 360 or PS3. Every so often I think "I might as well get one so they can upscale my DVDs on my shiny new HD TV" and then I have to give myself a mental slap, but I don't know how much longer I can hold out.

But we've not seen anything of the next-gen consoles so far. Shouldn't you blame the current gen? ;-)

I'd love to join you on this, but Killzone 2, Street Figher 4, Halo Wars and Resi 5, all out by mid-March, will break me. So I'm happy just knowing my weakness.
