So it's basically a straight remake, even with characters who look a bit like their British counterparts. Which begs the question; why bother?!

    Looks like it.

I don't mind stuff like RJ Berger, but this just actually looks shit.

    Get bent.

It translates pefectly to a US teen demographic to be fair. It's not like US teens would be watching the UK show is it? I'll probably watch it, with a sense of self loathing as a 30+ year old man should....same as I feel watching the original!

Jesus, they've managed to strip it of everything. Saying that, I'll at least give a watch, you never know, eh?

I don't see why everyone's so up in arms about it. It's virtually an exact remake but set in an American school instead of an English comp. Where the fuck else is it going to be set?

Just looks like Inbetweeners USA. I wonder what people were expecting it to look like.

I think its existence is the problem.

Look at how far the American Spaced Remake went......

No doubt america will drag it out needlessly as well.

I always thought it was called The Inbetweeners because they were in between being kids and adults rather than the US version's assertion of being in between being cool and nerds.

    This space left intentionally blank.

Oh dear. Yeah, it's not funny to me. Might be for US people I guess, and that's fair enough.

    It launched last night.

Will - not actually a nerd or a social reject, just a very bland person who serves as virtually nothing but an empty shell the viewer is supposed to inject themselves into. He's like an unsilent silent protagonist.

Simon - not actually believable as a social reject, and the actor is (without wanting to sound gay) too good looking for the part.

Jay - probably comes off the best out of the four, as he's different enough to stand alone.

Neil - utterly pointless. He's now just a weird stoner, but the actor playing him is fucking awful.

The main problem with it is much the same as the US Office when it first launched - it's almost a carbon copy of the UK one, script and plot wise. It's amalgamated several different episodes into one, taking lines and scenes wholesale.

The sad truth is that it might actually be okay if it goes off and does its own thing, again, just like the US Office, but chances are it's just going to be overwhelmed by the UK version. Isn't going to help that the original series is supposed to be shown alongside the US one, with the film launched shortly after.

It's also censored in the form of bleeping. Don't think there are uncensored versions out. Maybe when (if) it hits DVD.

EDIT: Actually, the main issue is that the group dynamic feels wrong. They don't seem like four people who'd actually be hanging out together, but seem happy to do so. Whereas the original were four people who were perfectly matched but couldn't accept it.

I assumed this was the case as the whole programme is based on them being between nerd and cool...

I can't see the American version working simply because their high school culture appears so different to that in Britain*.

*I'm obviously an expert because I've seen American Pie
