I can see why McLaren wanted to keep Button. He is past his peak as he's 34 (F1 peak is probably around 30ish), but in that sense so are Kimi, Massa and Alonso.

He's British, which maybe is good for McLaren's fans and sponsors. He is well-known enough to advertise Santander and Head & Shoulders, which sounds stupid but it does show how marketable he is.

He scored more than Perez last season and is ahead of his younger team mate this season. Overall he's doing alright. I'm sure McLaren will want to replace him when a definite better driver comes along, but until then is is a very good all-rounder. McLaren maybe aren't in the best position in terms of signing the top drivers at the moment either.

I think they'd probably like to hang on for one more season to help them gauge the new Honda engine. But there's no denying he's winding down for an exit in the next year or two.

He does have a good camera-facing personality, and I'd be very surprised if he didn't fall straight into punditry after his F1 career is over.

True he certainly seems a natural fit behind the mike.

I'd say the design of the cars has nothing what so ever to do with the drivers. All they can do is tell the engineers that part x feels better to them or worse.
They don't actually design it themselves.
Development doesn't necessarily mean design. No one here is suggesting they design the cars.
    lol fair enough. :)

Button is very professional and helped a lot on the engineering side. His previous effort with Honda probably had a lot to do with Honda partnering with McLaren. I don't think he's winding down.

...and yet, if your average minimum wage worker didn't declare 250 in casual wages you'd find them paying massive fines.

Simple economics, innit. They know if they tried to recover the money from Ecclestone it'd cost them millions in legal fees as he squirreled it away to Switzerland and proper far-off places. Whereas from some scrote they know they can just send round the heavies and take away his telly.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Nigel Stepney, the former Ferrari mechanic at the heart of the 2007 "spy-gate" scandal, has died in a road accident, aged 56.

Hard to know what to say about that. In F1 terms he was a scumbag but that's probably not deserving of death.

Just to get the bad taste joke in early maybe he'd found a Horses head in his bed after his betraying of Ferrari?

The spygate thing was some years ago now. Don't think it really has any relevance now, though obviously that's all he'll be remembered for.

Sad really as he was a part of the Ferrari dream team and had success elsewhere.

Gotta feel for Rosberg, he just can't touch him.

I've said it before, but Hamilton is going to break Vettel's races wins in a row record.

Yeah I think he's got a chance too. It wouldn't be completely insane if he won every race until the end of the season. I was just reading he's been leading 97% of the laps aside from Australia !

That many raves without a technical issue or racevincident would be incredible for a new formula car

You could have said the same about the Red Bull. That power train was a bucket of bolts.

I don't think he'll get that particular record, as much as I'd like him to.

Red Bull spent so long setting up their rave pit they didn't get the car right. Too many glow sticks, not enough development.

There's always some luck with winning runs. Someone drives into Hamilton at the first corner of a wet race, etc.
