The Mercedes is looking good, it's clear they were bullshitting in press interviews (Hamilton etc) over its potential. They want to challenge for title.

Personally I wouldn't hold my breath over Mercedes.
I'm not saying it's not possible that they're competitive, but I know from experience that we never ever see the full picture of relative competitiveness until about 3 races in.
At that point we can look back and see more or less where people are.

Many many teams have flattered to deceive in testing.

Mercedes and Brawn's problem has always been development over a season, hopefully they've done something to change this.

This sums up Red Bull very well.

I'd love it if Mercedes joined the party this year. Title race could be epic.

I still don't understand the idea of sandbagging. People liken it to Poker, but that's ridiculous. Bluffing that you have a good car won't make you win. Might as well go all out and discover your own capabilities.

It's not as if the other teams won't try as hard anyway...

That's not entirely true. There are two instances I can think of from the past where a team lost their advantage because other teams realised they both couldn't compete. In both cases it resulting in many teams going back to the drawing board to copy one innovation or another.

Pretty much impossible now because there's no in-season testing, but it's certainly happened in the past.

I think this pre-season is probably going to be pretty similar to last season in that where the cars look to be now is basically where they'll be in oz. it's very difficult to let what came before colour where you think they are. I reckon a merc will be pole, Ferrari/ rbr just behind (though rbr could be even a bit further back) and mclaren bottom end of the top ten early on. Lotus somewhere in the middle. I also reckon Williams will be up there.

Last season everyone was saying red bull were clearly ahead at pre-season but they looked to be struggling (relatively), and that's ultimately how it turned out in q3. I thought they were just pissing about before but they don't seem to be quite in it again at this stage. In a period of very stable regs it's much more difficult for them to hide ace, and I don't think they even bother as much as they have in the past. It was the same in practice sessions last season where there was barely any surprise in the pecking order after q3.

However I'd fully expect it to be mclaren and red bull battling out from when we get to the European stretch onwards. My only hope is that Ferrari are much closer (they seem to be at the moment, and their development was good last season), and that mclaren's drivers are good enough and the team aren't a shambles again. The main dark horse will be how quick Mercedes actually are in the first few races and whether it's enough to stay with the others later on.

For oz I reckon rosberg pole, then alonso/ Hamilton, then lotus/Massa/ red bull. One mclaren in about 8th and the Williams somewhere in that group too. Huge risk for teams consistently in the lower half of the top 10 with how close everything looks.

    There's my balls out :)

Get your balls out psychotext. Everything so far points to merc having the fastest one lap car right now, except retrospect. Think ros might just have the edge to start with

Joined the league again!! Ready to battle for mid table mediocrity :)

I`ll also put it out there. Merc on pole. Hamilton more likely imo and Hammy to battle for championship the whole season, with Alonso helping him in the penultimate race to keep up with Vettel.

Ok, the last part i made up.

They wont have the car set up for one lap pace in Australia. They would lead for the first 10 laps and then finish 10th because of having to pit 6 times.

If Lewis didn't stamp on Button the way he was predicted to do, I doubt that Perez will.

Hmmm my guess of the podium in Aus is...
    1st Button,
    2nd Alonso,
    3rd Vettel.

I dont see how Brawn GP can survive, they've done very little testing, so they'll be going into the season fairly cold. Each race will effectivly be their test runs.

I simply do not see how, even with all his experience they can be competetive.
