The rules cater for appeals process to be made before 30th Nov it seems and F1 as in any top level sport is about pushing the rules to the maximum if you want to win.

still, it would be a very sour way to tailend the season which has been probably the greatest i've ever witnessed.

I can't imagine it would feel half as sweet for Alonso or Ferrari either as it would if the result was in Alonsos favour on Sunday.

also there are so many variables between the incident (let's be clear it's the incident with Vergne, not Kobayashi that's under apparent investigation). could vergne have lifted? does the later SC negate any penalty? etc, etc.

Also on the SC at the end there is an SC line before the S/F where passing is allowed from. however there were waved yellows to the s/f line which negated any over taking and i suspect al drivers had been informed about theway the race would end from race control anyway from the way they trotted in.

F1 really doesn't need this. It would all get pretty unpleasent, if he got a penalty, Red Bull's first move would he to protest Kobayashi for hitting Webber at turn 1 a few laps in. The 2013 season might have started before they sort this.

There's clearly a green flag before the Vergne overtake (trackside flags override lights in cars) so I'm not entirely sure where their angle is there.

Were they the worst F1 team that ever was? No disrespect intended, I know that sounds paradoxial but goddamn....
Not even close to being the worst. Check f1 rejects.

Just heard about all this. Hah, just as Ferrari lured people into a false sense of security and start to make some friends again they whip off the mask and stick two fingers up at everyone. Love em :)

Would be a properly shit way to finish things off though.

Why would that be their first move?

Just heard about this, certainly a pretty crap way to end the season but if vettel has overtaken under yellows then he is to blame. He shouldn't be let off just because he won the championship.

A good question! For some reason I thought 8th would be enough, but Vettel needs 7th. My point was, a penalty drops Vettel to 9th, and a pen for KK raises him back to 8th. I was trying to highlight just how much of a mess this could be.

Anyway, general consecus on Twitter seems to be that there is no case to answer.

Watching it in slow mo certainly shows the green light as he passes, there's no case to answer. Commentators and race watchers who saw it live may have thought it was dodgy but it clearly wasn't.

Can't see what Alonso is whinging about.

    Oh hold on, it's Alonso.

He's the one pushing Ferrari to protest according to the BBC.

left hand side, there is a platform with a green advert on top of it and the flag / Marshall is poking out from that.

I just read the main story. Nothing there suggest alonso is pushing this? Ferrari are in there right to have a look, but i just hope they leave it be, which i think they will do.

If Andrew Benson is involved you know there's a 90% chance of it being bullshit. How he's kept a job writing about F1 all these years I'll never know. His last scoop was saying Lewis would be number 1 driver at Mercedes which was bollocks.

He's pretty late to the game. Spanish / Italian reporters have been pushing the angle for a couple of days now but it just smacks of desperation.

@Whizzo the light is after the pass though, it's the flag which is before the pass which makes it legal.

Autosport still haven't said anything yet, this still seems like a typical Benson fantasy to get traffic to the BBC site.

If a Marshall waved a green flag then vettel has every right to overtake, it's the Marshall who is guilty.

Re Alonso whinging. All that internal whinging you can't hear must be insufferable! Come on, if he says something to the press then fine but complaining that he's whinging here is not right.

Finally watched the incident. The Torro Rosso clearly lifted off to let him through. No idea what are the rules are in that situation.

Alonso said on Twitter: I dont believe in miracles. I make my miracles out of the correct rules.
