Hakkinen was a bit lucky to win in 99, Schumacher was helped a lot in 03, Alonso had an angel on his shoulder in 2005, Hamilton had to rely on a last corner mistake to win in 08, Button was absolutely gifted the 09 championship on a silver platter and Vettel has sure as hell had a handful of luck this year.

Did they deserve their championships? Absolutely. They and their teams did the job they had to do while those around them faltered. I don't rate Vettel as highly as Alonso, Hamilton or Raikkonen if I'm honest, but one thing you can't take away from him is that he's a born winner. Schumacher holds almost every record in the book, but there have been better drivers before him and there are better drivers today. But he had the winning mentality needed to succeed, worked his arse off and got the job done. That's exactly what Vettel and Red Bull are doing and you can't take anything away from them for that. 'Should haves' don't win championships.
Yeah I agree with pretty much all of that. I so badly wanted Alonso to win today, but at the end of the day it's about the whole season.

Formula one, more than almost any other sport, cannot be read by statistics. That said, vettel clearly deserves to be considered one of the best

It was a great drive today from him. He could have just paniced and binned it like he sometimes does, but he was pretty composed and just got on with the job. I think one of his best drives.

Its been a weird year, i probably say that hamilton and Alonso have been better, but you can't really fault vettel either, consistant in a car that was playing catch up. Alonso consistant in a car that was a horror show. Mclaren probably feel they lost the WDC. But congrats to vettel. Top driver.

More the same next year with a competitive mercedes team as well.

Just watching the forum. Lee does a brilliant interview with Vettel. She really gets him to open up.

This is true. Funnily enough those two always seem to flirt.

She does it with Schumacher too. I wonder if she has a thing for Germans.

On a side note, it speaks volumes for Kimis consistency this year that he got 3rd in WDC with just 1 win, especially when Lewis had 4 and JB had 3. Then again I guess that's been the story of McClarens season. Hot shit one week, engine failure the next.

Has to be said that Alonso's performance this year is one of the greatest ever. That car had no right to be fighting for the championship.

I think like Baleoce said, consistency was partly the key this year. It's all very well being fast as fuck, but if you don't finish a third of the races then it's all rather irrelevant.

Hamilton should have walked this year but at the end of the day sometimes rocketships fail. Ferrari just needed a little more speed to go with their consistency.

I wonder if Lotus will re-sign Grosjean? He seems more trouble than he's worth, maybe someone like Alguesari should get another chance? Or Kobayashi obviously :)

Top 5 in the predictors league. Pretty damned close between 1 and 2. Chuffed i sneaked in to top 5 in the last race. \o/

Definitely do that again next season. Was a giggle and gave the GP`s a slight edge - cheering for a driver cause you chose him rather than for any other reason!

I'd rather Lotus took a punt on Kobayashi. Grosjean has shown pace, but he just doesn't appear to have the bottle for wheel to wheel racing in F1. Plus, it would then mean the greatest partnership in F1 history is underway. A partnership known as Kimui. Move over Brangelina.

Lotus and Kimi/Kobayashi would be very exciting. I'd support the hell out of that team.

    Winnar! :D

It definitely added some fun to the season for me, here's hoping they run it next year.

In other news... a Kimi/Kamui combo would be brilliant.

The look on Bouiller's face behind Grosjean reminds me of Scanners. It's framed perfectly for Romain to explode.

Crazy that when you look at the final standings, even despite all prior team crapness, if Hamilton had won those most recent three races where he retired from the lead he would have been right up there at the end. Never seen anything like it really

Kimi and Kamui together would be a fantastic pairing and surely Lotus can afford it with their new money from Burn?

If Kobayashi doesn't have a drive next year then we're all being robbed. We need to see that man in a fast car.

Apparently Pastor Maldonado lost 48 grid places through penalties in 2012!

and if he took every one of those penalties combined in a single race he'd still start ahead of the HRT's.

Kobayashi is in talks with force india, put doesnt have the sponsors.

XBOX sponsorship would suit a mostly white and green car, and might help raise their profile in japan ahead of next years xbox720

its a shame the world isnt that simple

Apparently Kobayashi's fund raising site has raised over £500,000 so far so you never know! Not quite sure where the money goes if he doesn't find a drive though....

Aww I really hope he makes it. He'll be a massive loss to F1 for me. Such a nice guy too, not to mention the fact that he's a pretty nifty racer.
