The mclaren is pretty much fastest in all variables now, apart from maybe slow corners with heavy traction where red bull match/slightly beat them. I reckon Hamilton will be on pole by quite some distance for this one, Alonso 1st or second row, vettel, webber and Maldonado up there too. Probably Hamilton will dnf somehow

Don't forget red bull practically came from nowhere around about the same time as major rule changes. Now your are saying that a team the size of Mercedes cannot possibly get anywhere near them within 5 or 6 seasons
That's true, but I say that's a got a lot more to do with Adrian Newey than any of their drivers.

To be fair to Schumacher (and I really don't like being fair to Schumacher, the cheating hun) he knows a lot more about winning WDC titles than anyone and he knows how to get the best out of a team built around him. He had part of that team wih him at Mercedes - Ross Brawn. It should be a dream team, but -and this is my long-winded point- they've not got the car. They bought a title-winning team, they should be doing better. They need something more than Lewis Hamilton to become a race winning team.

BMW quit after a few years with just one win in the bag. Mercedes have just the one win at the moment. They seem set on being around for some years yet, but I don't think they'll want to stay in F1 if they're not winning. Then again, I'm not great on F1 predictions (see the Castrol predictor league), so don't listen to me!
Newey Was there 2 years before the Redbull did anything. the 07-08/RB3+RB4 Cars both Newey designed, both didn't do much. It was only the major changes in 09 that set all the teams back to a more level base on development that Rebull Really Became a force.

The Brawn GP race winning car won because of the Double Diffuser. towards the end of that season they where falling backwards, the car didn't have the raw paces of the other cars its chassis was miles off where the other teams where at. they found a loop hole in the regs and exploited it. and it took a lot for the other teams to catch up.

2014 despite not many aero changes there are changes been made to the chassis and engines. Mercedes are already rumoured to be pumping a lot into the development of that and most likely already have prototypes of the 2014 engines on the dyno.

I really can see them coming good.

He cant possibly come out looking bad from this move really if he starts winning a few races a few poles for Mercedes he will have done what the all time great 7 time world champion Michael Schumacher couldn't.

And if it doesn't go so well. then well Shumi couldn't do it either. the cars bad maybe the move was a mistake.

Michael just confirmed he's retiring again, a very wise move!

I don't like him, but I'd have still been pleased to have seen him win at Spa. A podium before the end of the season would be good. Maybe rain at Suzuka will give him a hand.

Think he's got better each season, shame to see him go. Would love to see him win one more rave.

Michael Schumacher winning one more rave. That's awesome imagery there.

He's been monumentally unlucky (along with 1 or 2 slip ups) this season, which is a shame because he looked to have some speed this year. I'd love to see him pinch one before the end and go out with a bang.

Yeah, over the past few months he definitely seems to have got the better of Nico. Monaco proved he's still got it, shame he's going. He's good for F1.

Seems tight at the top. Caught the last hour or so of p2 and ham, web and vet seem inseparable in both race and quali pace. Should be a good one

Everything is pointed towards a very close finish in the championship. McLaren and Red Bull upfront with Ferrari scrapping with a few other teams to be best of the rest.

I know Button is going to for Hamilton, but I wonder if Webber is going to help Vettel (for the championship).

Jeez, don't often see Kimi of the track, but he ruined that session. It's all coming together for Seb.

I hope it's not Vettel. I still find it hard to believe he's a double world champion.

    Red Bulls through 130R. Impressive.

The only person who really deserves the title this year is Alonso and I shall be bloody annoyed if the hot-lap kid nicks it from him.

I do hope Lewis has a good opt-out clause in his Mercedes contract too, their idea of development seems to be to start OK and get slower. Who's going to tell them?

Whoever wins this year deserves it. They've all had bad luck and good (some more than others) so can all easily stake their claim.

Though I'd argue that Alonso has had more bad luck over the last couple of years (not this year though) and he's certainly done a great job with a pig of a car.

    I agree.

Also, whoever could have won it, but blew it (!MCLAREN!?), would deserve to lose it. Although it's not blown yet.

I don't think Vettel has this season in the bag at all. Suzuka suits the Red Bulls - was any other teams cars capable of using DRS on the 130R corner? The other teams might do better on the remaining circuits. If Kimi and Lewis (and Mark) can finish ahead of Alonso, they're still in with a chance.
