I can only conclude that people who don't like Swagger Jagger must be buying it anyway. Perhaps because they've heard a rumour that Simon Cowell is desperate for money.

Because only the very arsehole of humanity can like the song, yet the perineum and scrotum of humanity are buying it too. Something is fucking up.

    We've got a new contender

Basically a band being wacky in order to appeal to teens. The tune is called 'Because Boobs'. Yeah it's that bad.

The only redeeming feature of that Bruno Mars song is that he refers to alcohol as 'dancing juice'.

    Sigh.

I would criticise Psychostick, but then I own a copy of Hooray for Boobies by Bloodhound Gang.

Also, sounds a little like Multi Purpose Chemical in places.

I liked her second album. This is a shocker!

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Guess musically shooting yourself in the face is *one* way of reinventing yourself.

She's trying to do this, but without actually being good.

Well, more riot grrl stuff. But without actually being good.

    But that is good.

Yeah, but she's gone on about riot grrl stuff before. I think it's quite clear that's the influence on this unfortunate experiment.

Thing is though, riot grrrl was about women using music for polical/feminist ends, not a style of music in itself. Being more of a social movement than anything else, it can only exist within the time and social context it occurred in. Kate Nash is just being a silly bugger. It's a pastiche.

Going to see her live next week anyhow. No idea what to expect but hopefully that 'song' is a one off.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

I get that, but I just think that if you were to ask her what influenced that song she'd say "riot grrl". She may be just doing a pastiche of it, but I think that's what she'd say.

Anyway, we're missing the important thing: those vocals. My word.

Yeah, I'm just arguing because I don't want to read this textbook :)

And yes, the important thing here is that is just plain bloody awful. Is she not well, do you think?

Jesus that's awful. Trying to jump into a genre without actually listening/understanding it gets you nowhere.

This could be her 'Mansion Song' on her new album. Any luck, it won't be on there at all.

    Still would though :-)

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

It's still more entertaining than her hit song.

And the vocals are less annoying.

The two floppy haired, public school looking buskers in Bath this lunch time, covering "Message in a Bottle".

    Kill.

I think there's some law in Bath that says if you own an acoustic guitar, you have to play it badly in the street.

I've developed a fierce hatred of acoustic guitars because of the sort of music I associate them with, from shit buskers via rubbish 'singer-songwriters' to crushingly dull acoustic sessions. So strongly do I feel about this that my band's Facebook page bears the statement 'this band has no acoustic guitars'.

I own one and I love it, it's what I mostly play (easiest to quickly grab and just play). BUT...

I would never busk with it. Neverevereverever.

And I will never write heartfelt, singer songwriter type pop, either.

    I promise. :D

They do have their place, and there's loads of great acoustic guitar music, but recently I've heard so much shit music associated with acoustic guitars that I find it increasingly difficult to seperate the two in my head.

In fact I should probably put it in the unfair judgements thread: whenever I'm at a gig and I see someone with an acoustic guitar alarm bells start going off in my head.
