    New video up today. Boasting HALF A MILLION weapons using a script that randomly generates hundreds of parts of the weapons.

    My initial thoughts are that it looks like a typical Gearbox game, very fluid movements, lovely ambience and lighting effects, great sound.. initially I am very excited.

    Rumours circulating about a supposed 32 player on-console deathmatch with huge, huge maps.. looks definitely one to watch!!

    Heard the name, don't know squat about the game.

    I actually thought it was one of the Mad Max-style games that's due, but it turns out it's space-cowboys and mining corporations and.......oh, who cares.

    Doesn't look amazing, and when they boast about "HALF A MILLION WEAPONS WOOOO !" it's more of a turn-off than a brilliant selling point.

    You can read this ? You've helped ruin the place. :(

    I'm sure I remember seeing this vid before back on the old Borderlands thread, still looks an interesting game and it's by Gearbox so it has potential

    As good as Fallout and Fable are, the loot leaves a lot to be desired.

    I love stuff like this, because an AK47 with a wooden finish on the handle is clearly different than an AK47 with a metallic finish on the handle.

    Although I never bought as it was supposed to be very average indeed, the 'pimp my gun' part of Army of Two very nearly swayed me :)

    Just watched that video in the OP for the first time. Looked really good actually. Cel shading looks alright too though.

    Not sure I like the cel shaded look for this, given it's Gearbox we'll probably all have retired/died/been elevated to being Vorlons before it arrives anyway.

    This space left intentionally blank.

    I love it. If that is representative of the in-game graphics it just climbed up my wanted list.

    Edit: Just read the "article" and I can't see any reason to suppose that image is anything other than storyboard / concept art.

    Which would be a shame. I reckon it would look good on the move.

    I wonder if they've changed the look to avoid looking to artistically similar to Id Software's Rage which it probably end up being released about the same time, which at least graphically will pound Borderlands into the dust.

    It looks a hell of a lot like Crackdown now I must admit. Not sure I like it much.

    Whilst it works well in a mystical, fairy tale like setting as in Prince of Persia or the tongue in cheek, comic book world of Crackdown I was under the impression this was a darker, more serious post apocalyptic affair. A colourful happy aesthetic don't seem to fit so well.

    Also I've never been keen on FPS games straying too far from a 'realistic' design. I just find it more satisfying using the weapons in an FPS if they all feel believable I guess.

    We do care about all our fans, no doubt, and the decision to alter the art style was assuredly not one taken or made lightly. It also wasn't made without gathering plenty of information and feedback - we've been doing extensive focus testing throughout development. Let me tell you guys a little about it:

    Though there's always the chance some people could be turned off by the style, it was decided that, overall, it fits the game and creates a more visually interesting experience. Our concept art had this incredible, distinctive style and feel that fit so perfectly - the game has not become less detailed or washed out at all. Rather, it retains the detail and style that's often lost when we move from concept art to 3D. It stands out, and makes the gray-and-brown bleak landscapes, while still bleak and inhospitable, memorable and recognizable. The entire world has life to it, from the creatures to the very rocks and dirty walls. The game world is no less gritty, dirty, or harsh - all of the detail is there, and the environments have even more atmosphere. We solicited feedback from our focus testing initiative, which consists entirely of a very large pool of gamers from all walks of life, and in the end, the choice was clear for us.

    Whether or not you are excited about the art style, the core gameplay is still the same: gritty, fun co-op FPS action on an alien frontier world with RPG elements and a metric shitton of guns. And it is a hell of a lot of fun - I may be biased, but I'm also a gamer myself, and I have had a chance to play the game. I think it would be fun if it looked like a PS1 game. I think a great deal of people will agree with this (and a great deal of our testers have already). The PC Gamer article has a great write-up of the player experience.

    I'll definitely be sad to see anyone put off go, but I do hope that on release (and maybe even before as we release a bunch of new media), you'll give it a shot - even if it's just playing a friend's copy or something like that. I think you may still be surprised.

    Oh, and re: Scrawny characters - Lilith and Mordercai are skinny for sure, but they're not the only characters in the game

    I like the look of it but your FPS point is a good one. It's a style that might work better in 3rd person as you're more of a controller/observer than actor.

    Only time and a demo will tell.

    Edit: Isn't Mirror's Edge cel/flat shaded? (haven't played it)

    Looks very nice imo. Quite wanting to play this. With the 'millions of guns' gameplay I feel I might spend quite a few hours over the course of a longer period just pootling about.

    Attractive! Reminds me of Level 5's PS2 stuff - Dark Chronicle, etc.
