Just a quick straw poll. A little bored in the office and want to see whether folk are excited about this. Personally, I still have XP and it's serving me very well. Vista did not entice because it essentially would have forced me to buy a new PC. And I am cheap. So, no sale.

Who is chomping at the bit for the new OS?

It's out this year. In the summer, apparently.

I've got it running on the box next to me. It's alright.

In other words, no I'll keep XP/Vista for the time being.

I will probably upgrade my PC this year and when I do I will probably put the 64 bit version of windows 7 on it.

So far the internet thinks it is better than Vista and I will need a 64 bit OS to support the 4+ GB of RAM I will put in the PC.

Does it offer many imrpovements over XP? (That I'll care about, dont need any more features, but performance etc) And can I get it to look like my XP setup (rainydays, all square etc).

I thought they were planning for the end of 2009 which when the usual MS delays kick in will mean middle of 2010

When it comes out I'll certainly take a look, but it'll need to be a lot slimmer and more compatible than Vista was. I've seen some early screenshots, and it does look quite nice.

I know Vista has improved a lot since launch, but I still won't touch it while everything still works on XP.

I have never even heard of it. Surely it's not a new OS?

Windows 7 is the successor to Vista, but I can't see it being out in the next 6-7 months.

Anyway, I'll be upgrading in a month or 2 and going with Vista 64 Ultimate. Got a copy of it a while back and never got around to using it.

I'm not stupid enough to upgrade to it, but I might dual boot it and give it a whirl for 10 minutes.

Beta 1 of Windows 7 is outperforming Vista (Well duh) and even XP. Seems like Microsoft are on the right track.

Why did Vista only last for the blink of an eye then?

I want an OS that runs my games, my web browser and a word processor and doesn't eat my fucking RAM for any other useless cocktarded 'feature'.

-- boobs do nothing for me, I want moustaches and chest hair.

Yep got Windows 7 running in a virtual machine on my mac at the moment and it's so much better than vista. Performs well and is very very stable considering its a year from release! This looks like a definite for me.

3-4 years is about normal for a MS OS.
