    Hi everyone,

I've just rediscovered Quake 3, smashing game, and was wondering if any of you more than decent fellows know any good downloads. Map packs, mods and the like.

I'm playing the game with a mate over LAN, and Quake 3 runs v. well on my aging laptop.

So, what's the best stuff to look out for.

    Cheers,
    malloc.

    Try downloading Urban Terror malloc.

    www.urbanterror.net

It was originally a total conversion mod for Quake 3, but it's not its own standalone installer.

Also, Trackmania Nations Forever. Free game and bundles of fun. Runs on just about anything.

I don't know if True Combat would be alive anymore for Quake 3 - I very much doubt it tbh but that was a fantastic mod under the Counter Strike style of gameplay but with more of a focus on 'realistic realism'.

Failing that, the same mod can be found as True Combat: Elite for Enemy Territory which is very much alive!

EDIT - Scratch that, noticed now you mention playing over LAN - In that case, get it! Don't know how it'd be with just two players but it's still a great mod nonetheless.

Actually, I don't know if anyone can answer this. I've got WinQuake and Hexen 2 (which uses the Quake engine) running in 1680x1050 however GLQuake doesn't seem to want to run in anything other than 640x480 (or is it 800x600... whatever). Editing the config.cfg or making an autoexec.cfg file hasn't worked. Also the -height and -width command line options don't seem to work. Anyone know where I'm going wrong?

    Running this through Steam remember!

Here's what happens when you leave a Q3A server running for 4 years with adaptive AI bots. Amazing.

Sadly untrue. IIRC it was even debunked by one of the Q3 programmers when it did the rounds a few years ago. Also that the screenshot is of a Win7 machine, which wasn't out in 2007 when the server was (allegedly) started.
