Saints Row 2 works well enough on modern-day PCs. However, pad support sucks. Found it a better game than SR3, when all is said. Even found it to have quite a bit of heart, under its thuggish exteriors. Much more so than the sequel.
I agreed with that until I was about 20 hours into SR3. Now it's overtaken SR2 for me. Despite a soulless, unimaginative opening few hours (assuming you've played SR2), there's some brilliant stuff further in. :D
(Edit: that "20 hours" figure is a guess, it's probably less. Or possibly more!)

My issue with SR3 is that - not having played any of the previous ones - I have no idea who these people are and what is going on

I haven't played SR1, but as far as I can tell, your customisable character lead a crew that started as a small street gang, eventually took over the whole neighbourhood (had an accident, lost it all, woke up in hospital for the start of SR2 and did it all again), and then took on some evil corporation, resulting in your character being rich and famous for the start of SR3.

And you've got those three friends, too. Johnny Gat, Shaundi, and Pierce. They were your friends in SR2, at least.

    I think.

    It's been a few years.

Having played them all I can tell you that this is the normal state of affairs. ;)

Heh. It's not a huge problem or anything, but so far (a couple of hours in) I haven't gotten much in the way of backstory. I know that Johnny Gat is supposed to be awesome or something, but I'm missing a bit of context here.

    Still fun, though!

The opening hour or so of SR3 is super batshit insane. Brilliant fun, but i'm wondering if the rest of the game can live up to it...

If you are going to play SR2, make sure you pop the Gentlemen of the Row Mod in.

It fixes a lot of broken stuff and makes the game run better :)

The thing I don't like about SR3 is how long the missions drag on for. What makes this worse is the fact that 95% of all objectives are shooting dudes. 20 minutes of shooting the bullet sponges takes its toll.

Just to confirm, all the DLC has been added from the full package to my standard one.

The Gentlemen of the Row mod makes SR2 playable but still what one may perhaps describe as 'janky as fuck'.

    Portable view - Never forget.

Yeah, there's a real lull in the middle of SR3, but it gets going again for the final 3rd of the game. In fact I love everything from the Bert Reynolds reveal onwards :)

You have to play it with the cockney gangster voice for full appreciation.

There are people who played SR3 and picked a voice other than Laura Bailey's?

The world is truly a sick and disturbing place.

Gamersgate have Aliens: Colonial Marines and it's season pass for just 12.49 (the code elder-geek.com should knock more off). Personally I think that is well worth it for pretty much the whole lot (and the bughunt DLC is the best part of the whole game) but then I'm not the A:CM hate wagon and quite enjoy it myself, in fact I noticed the other day that thanks to the online it's become my 2nd most played Steam game with only The Witcher beating it.

Yup, plenty to do in A:CM if you like writing hate pieces and capturing hilarious .gifs. :p

I don't know who she is, but if she's the zombie, then I'm right with you!

Quick question I thought would get answered more quickly here:

Just built new pc, fresh copy of windows on an ssd. Installed steam, do I now just install steam mover from http://www.traynier.com/software/steammover select the game folders on old hard drive and copy over? Is it that simple, or am I missing something? Even more simple than that perhaps?

i think you can just copy the folders in steamapps\common directly to your new installation, and then install.

I don't think you need any software to move it. The Steam site had a simple guide last time I needed to move mine.

Yeah thanks lads, was hoping it should be easier than I was making it.
Just moved fallout: NV in less than 2 mins! Installing now.

I have never had a problem in copying the game directory from the steamapps\common location.

Steam will prompt to install and that-is-that. Some games have required tiny amounts of downloading but nothing much.

Save game locations are not as simple so you need to read up where those are stored for each game.

    FLOPS! RAM!

Moderate warning, I had some issues with Rayman Origins using a controller on PC. I found that it'd only work with a wireless controller not wired (could be subjective that one since it shouldn't make any difference), it won't display the buttons on screen, instead uses the numbers (ie 'Button 4' = A, or something).

Never really noticed that on my wireless pad TBH but then quite a few games never display the buttons so I don't think about it. What is it with Ubi and the wireless pad though, they always seem to have trouble with it :)

    N00b questions alert.
How does humblebundle actually work? Do they send you a Steam code after you have paid or something?
Will I be able use it if I haven't yet bought anything on Steam?
    TIA.

@Cosmopolitan You get codes to redeem on Steam. You'll have to sign up to Steam in order to play them.
Sometimes you get individual codes for each game, sometimes one code for all or half of them.
In this case it's two codes. One for all the under 4.21 (or whatever it is atm) stuff and another for the games you get for paying over the average.
You can receive the codes without signing up for Steam. But they'd be pretty useless unless you want to sell them.
They send you an email with a link to the codes, but it also gives you a link as soon as you pay on the site.
