Isn't that pretty much the boxquote? It's just a cash-in on the boring horde mode fad.

Arseholes. Finally took the plunge on that Civ 5 add on for a fiver, then minutes later see it on greenmangaming for a paltry 2 punds.

I don't do superstition well. Granted. Either way it's three quid I could have spent on another game that I will realistically never get around to playing anyway.

Bought doom 3 NON bfg edition. Immediately modded it with new textures, menus and the duct tape mod. Add a widescreen fix and I am good to go.

    Looks and plays surprisingly well!

Non BFG version, 1.50 or summat. No point buying BFG when you can mod up the original so easily.

You may like it. I'd probably be willing to give it another go but when I played it it was like a horde mode but I was always running out of ammo.

Some of the levels are set in interesting locations at least

I cant fault payday for 3, a few mates got it and we on skype so makes the game a lot better in a group. When you level up a bit and can get your group equipped with ammo bag, health bag and sentries its a really enjoyable game

    Race 07 I picked up for 74p

Please tell me it supports AI bot matches...

I picked it up hoping it was a FPS but still had some infiltration/planning strategy, however light (I was so gutted when introversion cancelled Subversion), but all this talk is making me think it's just Gears of War horde mode with a bank robbing skin...

Still though, 3.74 so no big loss.

Another thing I'm really tempted at... as a primarily solo player, is Secret World worth it at around 18 quid in value-for-money sense? It doesn't look like it's going to drop any further because the store page says it's a specific "until Jan 5 holiday offer" thing.

(I love lovecraft/ weird conspiracy stuff if that helps)

I voted for quake, why? because its a fucking excellent game and I cant wait to play it again 2 and 3 are a load of shit compared to 1 which doesnt get the love it deserves and needs a remake.

Quake is worth it for the soundtrack alone IMO (and I think the OST costs more than this separately), but then I'm a NIN fanboy - wouldn't surprise me if it got votes on that basis alone, considering how esteemed its soundtrack is and how big the NIN fanbase is.

I guess AoE3 is a good one if you've somehow been living under a rock for a decade or are a newcomer to strategy gaming.

@darkmorgado i found the skills and combat to be a mess, the stting was sorta interesting but in a way that also just highlighted how clunky mmo controls are in general

held my interest for a couple of weeks.

Hm, that's sort of in line with what I've read before but damn, the trailers and lore I read just positively reek of Lovecraftian horror and I'm such a fanboy of that stuff when it's done right. Does it take a tongue-in-cheek approach to its lore that sort of damages its atmosphere?

Sorry for all the questions, but I've loved the idea since it was annoounced and now they've dropped the subs and having it on offer I'm really tempted but reluctant to pick up a turkey. I've also heard it's really open to solo play and I'm one of those weirdos that treats MMOs as solo games exclusively until I have no other choice.

I'm also the sort of weirdo that gets an odd amount of satisfaction out of fishing in world of warcraft, so if there's stupid time-wasting stuff like that in TSW I'm actually likely to consider it as another draw to the game...

If only there was a trial option :(

Fuck it. I took a risk and have bought Secret World.

I'm bound to get some enjoyment out of it based on my love of the theme alone, especially now it's ditched the sub model.

Let us know how you find it. I've been thinking of playing a MMORPG and this does sound interesting. I tried guild wars 2, and even though its very addictive I'm not sure if I was having fun or not...

I usually feel the same way with MMOs, I'm not sure why but I expect the feeling that there's no end in sight and that more than almost any other use of time they feel like it's time wasted doesn't help :)

TSW is certainly different. I was involved in the betas and did enjoy it a lot but. It's easily playable solo and much of the content seems to have been created specifically with that in mind.

as others have said, the investigation missions are by far the stand out element of TSW, taking it above and beyond most other MMOs in terms of making you think and having to reason both within the game world and beyond.

i.e. downloading a morse code translator on my phone so I could decode a message in the game to solve an investigation Q.

It's well worth a punt and I'm fairly sure you'll get your monies worth out of it, just so long as you're not expecting anything game changing in most other regards.
