Hmm strange one then. Every other game I've tried so far has run perfectly.

Precursors is down from £9.85 to £2.84 on Shopto! Check out the Game Features!
Game Features: • Unique gameplay: mix of RPG/FPS/Space simulator. • Very different planets to walk around on in absolute free-play. • More than 250 diversified quests. • Partly organic weapons with ammunition that must be bred. • Controllable spaceships, robots and other vehicles. • Stunning space battles with boarding included. • Large number of unusual enemies (Plants, Insects, Birdmen, etc). • Trading possibilities with a complex circulation of goods. • Interaction with hundreds of NPCs of different alien races. • Real-time weather effects, day/night and atmospheric changes
I was waiting for a fiver (and have been for some time). I'm so happy! :) Edit: Forgotten what Precursors is? :p

Steam version of Crysis works no problem on Windows 7 (64bit) for me too. It's just Steam that appears to have stopped working after some update or other....anyone else?

**Edit** - Oh it's working again now!

I'm sure that could be remedied IF THEY SOLD PHYSICAL COPIES OF PC GAMES.

Shopto sell physical copies of PC games (I've even had a few from them). That message is fucked up, though. D: They used to deny using Paypal on download purchases until you were Silver or Gold, and they didn't let you change address until your third purchase, and... well, lots of strange security stuff.

But that's the first time I've seen that. o_O Possibly a new site addition. Their site re-design is very poor - they've only just fixed the sort-by and recently-reduced stuff today (hence I was able to find Precursors), but it's not nearly as pleasant as it used to be. Don't think I'll be using them as much from now on.

Edit: here are their physical copies of PC games, Dirtbox. Not that this is the thread to mention such things, of course. ;)

That shopto shit is to stop international people using a proxy to buy things. Whereas virtually every other store doesn't give a flying fuck as a purchase is a purchase. Amazon even encourage it.

Insanity. Ignoring the fact I'm in the UK for the second, why do they think it's on them to police that type of thing? It's down to the publishers/content providers, not the point of sale.

It's strange, because I'm international and Shopto won't stop me. But I've ordered physical items from Amazon.com before (internationally), but they block me from purchasing their downloads. :/

Edit: so Amazon.com are also twats because they block me. :( I'm thinking some boycotts are in order! :-P

Amazon only block it if you don't have a US address in your account - it's trivial to add one. The reps even tell you how to do it if you ask.

I have a US address in my account and have had physical items delivered to it.
  • Deleted user 7 September 2012 18:37:27
Weird, that's the first I've ever heard of a block. Like I said, they actually encourage it if you ask. Is it a linked Amazon account from a different region? I've heard that sometimes their rules and regulations change depending on that (like how Amazon.fr can't buy digital items like books from Amazon.co.uk, but can from .com and other weirdness like that).

It was originally set up as a UK account when I was in the UK. Do I need to "nip across to the US" and make a full-on US account?

I'm not blocked, exactly - it's the same as Dirtbox with Shopto. I click on "Buy And Download" and it tells me "Game Downloads are only available to US customers
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please continue shopping on the Amazon.com home page."
  • Deleted user 7 September 2012 18:48:52
Nope, should just work with the linked UK accounts. I think you have to have a credit card linked to that address as a payment method though (but it can have a separate UK billing address).

    Total War sale on GetGames.

Looks like I'll be picking up Fall of the Samurai and almost never playing it.

    @PenguinJim

Re: The Amazon US Address thing.

I've bought downloadable games from the Amazon US site a few times .

I just put in a fake US account.

Set it as my default address for the purchase and download or steam code-reveal.

Then swapped back to my default delivery address afterwards.

So the problem is that I was using a real US address? :-P (Which is, incidentally, set to both my default and my 1-click address)

It works for some, but not for others (I've seen people with the same problem). Not a big deal - the games are supposed to be for US customers only, and I'm not in the US. If I'm desperate for more games to put into my Steam library and not play, I can always harass an EGer or a CAGer to buy it for me. ;)

Or I could say that Amazon are twats who don't like money. :D

Hitman Collection is £3.74 again on Steam. If you only want one, pick Blood Money, I think (£1.49).

About three days ago, two separate CAGs in two separate Cheap Ass Gamer threads had problems with GMG - one had Civ V removed from their Steam library, and 2K told them GMG was not a legitimate Steam reseller, and another was banned from the EA forums for posting GMG deals - EA told them that GMG was not a legitimate Steam reseller.

I used to tell people that despite their security issues, payment issues, checkout issues and support issues, GMG should be safe for in-stock Steam keys, but now... maybe not. :p

Don't worry it's coming over here, it's just been held up in the red tape which allows them to sell downloads. If you are in the UK Amazon downloads should be here some time early next year.

I must be going bad - could have sworn I saw Endless Space for 50% earlier, but there's no sign of it now.

Ragdoll Kung Fu is £1.49 on Steam today

I don't like it, but it was the first third party game to be sold on Steam.
