Kermode lost me when he trashed Mulholland Dr.

And he has a stupid haircut.

    And face.

I might actually start watching Film again after all these years :)

I wonder if he'll actually be honest to directors faces, unlike JR who tended to kiss their boots during an interview only to change tone and lay into them when reviewing it 2 seconds later.

Actually, that was probably the only good thing about JRs tenure now I come to think of it...

    Hehe.

    He'll be good.

He'll be awful. I'd much prefer Mark Lamarr.

JR was a reliable reviewer, from what I saw of it.

I hate how he plays up to what people expect from him.

Its what makes him a reviewer and media personality. If it was me receiving loads of emails saying 'ZOMG! CANT WAIT FOR U 2 TEAR TF3 A NEW ONE LOL!!', I would probably have declared bay a genius and that the film was the best thing to ever happen to cinema, which is the reason I dont review things for a living.

Having said that yahtzee does at least address this in his reviews.

    ---------------------------------------------------------
    He totally called it

    I don't think he's a twerp. I just don't think he's terribly bright.

Thing is, he's almost become a parody of himself. He complains that Michael Bay is just making war porn and turning everything up to 11... whilst he makes review porn and turns everything up to 11.

He didn't used to be like this.

I agree that he is just playing to the gallery most of the time.
His faux angry rants and ridiculous voices have made me turn off before.

And a few weeks ago he was trying to claim he was the only human who hated the first Transformers film, and now everyone is 'late to the party' in calling them piles of shit, copying him.

    You what dickhead?
  • Deleted user 2 July 2011 11:02:49
Missing his point (and also that he was referring to Transformers 2). The point was that, as always, the general public were saying that the critics were wrong and can't appreciate blockbuster films because they only like arty films. The general consensus, including the film makers later believing that they had actually produced a pile of shit.

He was right, just in a very exaggerated way.

I don't think he does. Everyone was expecting Pirates 4 to be an epic rant but he just basically said "Meh!".

As for him liking the Twilight movies, at least he says that knowing how unpopular that is & he sticks to his guns. The show they did with the BBC Symphony was just fucking superb.

The voices are quite funny too. Danny Dire (as that is what he is) fucking hates him. Which is all the more reason to love him.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Yes, you really had to be listening regularly to appreciate the level of nonsense about TF (and 3D) that contributes to the attitude you hear from the review.

I really hope he's right and that 3D has fucked off from cinema within a year.

I find he often confounds what I expect of him actually. I expected him to tear into Twilight and High School Musical but he liked both. His tastes wander from mine, but he's always worth a listen and he's a lot deeper in his criticism then a lot of critics. He doesn't just say wether something is worth watching or not, but does the whole subtext bunk.

I rather enjoyed that - the TF3 review. I enjoyed hearing Tom Hanks chat more though. If I had some sort of party (not bukkake or similar) and could invite one celeb, it'd be him. He can talk.
