Just a heads up - the beta's been leaked onto your favourite sites of piracy.

    Why use a leaked one?
  • Deleted user 29 October 2008 23:30:51
    Because...there's no actual public release?

There's a pretty funny video out there of a rep showing a BBC reporter how accessible and friendly Windows 7 is.
He goes to grab the corners of a picture to expand them apple style, except the system completely fails to sense his fingers :)

I never bothered with Vista, if this is a UI maintenance update won't most of the same 'core' problems remain?

hah, only a matter of time :)
Don't think i'll bother though as i'm having a hard enough time trying to like Vista.

This has been in development since before Vista, pretty much, so it's not really just an update to Vista.

Eh? A new Windows? OOo! What happened to Windows Surface? Are they still working on it?

I thought they were just going the Apple route now. Smaller OS updates over a shorter time for cheaper.

Is this what they are doing?

I think it's being rolled into Windows 7 Razz.

Grem, from the video i saw on the beeb, it's kernal is vista, the real meat of the update comes in the form of a new UI and other fiddly bits.

Urgh My eyes. To me, that looks a little fugly. I still like the clean stylings of XP. :)

I imagine so Razz, this is the one that MS seem to have moved forward with some people saying it'll be out by Christmas next year. Vista's been such a success eh?

Well, they've been using the same kernel for ages now, just with improvements bolted on. They're basically claiming 7 will be the XP to Vista's 2000 (or ME, depending on how much you dislike it).

But yes. I like fucking around with things, so I'll probably piss about with the beta for a couple of hours before getting annoyed at something trivial then consigning it to the dustbin.

At the risk of being flamed down into oblivion...

Since i switched to OSX a few years ago, it's clear to me that windows has a lot to live up to in terms of usability, surely it can only get better ;)

I'm boot camped into XP half of the time these days, bloody games.
  • Deleted user 29 October 2008 23:57:39
Yuh, if I wasn't so lazy or another OS could actually play games properly I might actually bother using the multiboots that sit angry and unused on my partitions.

I love how the only thing they've thought of with a multitouch interface is to scale things.

Adobe do for you? How about Microsoft?

Wrong, actually. My first Mac was a Blue&White G3 tower running OS 8.6.
If you really need all that essential software, then the Mac isn't for you. Why even own one, much less bitch about it?

    Zbrush 3? http://www.pixologic.com/zbrushMac/ 3.12, in fact.

http://www.uvlayout.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=72 has a demo for a Mac version of UV Layout.

Softimage doesn't exist for Mac as far as I can tell, but still. Two of the three 'essential tools' you require are out there - have you even looked?

Poor choice of computer my arse, it suits me fine and has done for ten years. Try harder mate.

Why not switch to Windows altogether then? I understand the Adobe stuff is practically identical across both platforms these days.
