@DUFFMAN5 Nier. Criminally underrated. Make sure you finish it and begin the second playthrough. You'll see why.

    3DS: Mooky - 2019-9643-8311
    NNid: Agent_Llama
    Vita/PS3/360: Faloola
    FFXIV ARR: Alekzander Lockhart, Odin

    ooh, there's a quandary - i loved all three

i think your best bet is thinking do you want something fairly focussed/jrpg-ey(nier), middling (dragon age) or sprawling (skyrim)

if i had to make the call on my favourite, i'd go with skyrim...as sprawling, open-ended questing & losing myself in the world is what turns me on

if you haven't played it, i think you'd really like dragon age, duff, though

but then, even with the replaying, nier is a shorter game so you could polish that off first as it is truly excellent, then sink your time into one of the others...

to summarise, my post isn't of any help at all, really

What have I got ready to go. I fear this could be a frightening list and I might have to give up on some

    Dark Souls
    Deus Ex HR
    Okami Wii
    Skyward Sword
    Uncharted 3
    NFS: MW
    Sleeping Dogs
    Bayonetta
    Rocksmith
    MGS 3 HD
    Minecraft
    Machinarium

The list goes on. I think next on the list to actually finish will be Deus Ex

just finishing silent hill homecoming for my retread through the sh games

then got to choose from the following..

    ps3
    quest for booty
    crack in time
    haze
    white knight chronicles
    killzone 2&3
    resistance 2&3
the assassins creed series (a replay before i get 3)
    genji
tomb raider trilogy (a replay before march)
    little big planet
dead island (a replay because i love it)
    mafia 2
    the fallouts (see dead island)
    inversion

and, tbh, i haven't got a clue what i'm going to go for - having immersed myself in sh for the past month or so, i want another survival horror but there's nothing left out there....:(

    Cheers chaps
    I went with...Gears 2 multiplayer :)
but I will start an rpg agin soon.

    @tony
I really enjoyed R2 and have played an hour or so of R3 and have enjoyed that a great deal. I know Resistance2 gets a lot of flack, but as I say I enjoyed the campaign and get some fun out of the mp, although I was late to the party with it.

Personally I wouldn't classify replays as backlog but fair enough, it's your list.

I have about 100 games on steam that I have either not played at all or for less than 10 minutes. In my defence most are from various bundles.
I won't include those though, my backlog is:

    Alan Wake
    Assassin's Creed: Revelations - Cleared
    Bayonetta
    Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts
    Binary Domain
    Bulletstorm
    Bully
    Dark Sector
    Dead Island
    Dishonored
    Dreamfall
    Far Cry 3 - Cleared
    Gemini Rue
Guild Wars 2 (got to about level 8 I think)
    Heavenly Sword - Abandoned
    Hitman: Blood Money
    Hotline Miami
    Lair
    Lego Batman 2
    Lego LOTR
    The Longest Journey
Mark of the Ninja - Cleared
    Metal Gear HD
    Oddworld: Strangers Wrath
    Puzzle Agent 1 - Cleared
    Puzzle Agent 2
    Quantum Conundrum
    Rayman Origins
    Red Faction Armageddon
    Revenge of the Titans
    Shogun 2
    Sniper Elite V2
    Space Chem
Spec Ops the Line - Cleared
    Syndicate - Cleared
    Trine 2
    Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
    The Void
    The Walking Dead - Cleared

There are plenty of games that I haven't included since I know I'll never play them.

Some good games on there mate. I wish we had NO releases for at least a year*, so I would stop buying new things and actually play the games I bought and am buying all the time ;)

    *not really of course

@DUFFMAN5 I know what you mean, I'd like the distraction of new shinies to go away so I'm forced to finish some older games but at the same time I love new shinies!
I have Dishonoured arriving any day now but that's the last one until after Xmas, I hope.

There are some great games there and I intend to play most of them.
Oh god I just remembered XBLA and PSN.

My top tip would be to give up on trine 2 now because its dull, even in 3 player co op. Oh, and sell dishonored for a small profit :)

It's so pretty though! I did like Trine 1 but it took me about 3 years to actually get around to finishing it.

I'm afraid I'll have to politely refuse your offer :)

If you liked trine 1 you may be ok. It is stupidly pretty but the platforming physics are dreadful, and every puzzle seems to involve the wizard lifting the other two to victory

    well, it's getting clearer...

I've sold one and completed 7 of the games that were in my post from May this year, and am midway through AC:Brotherhood as well

    De Blob 2
    Gray Matter
    Deus Ex:HR
    Batman:AC
    DJ Hero 2
    Rage
    Alice Madness Returns
    Gears 3
    Halo 3
    GTA LOTD
    GTA Gay Tony
    Zeno Clash
    Splosion Man
    Torchlight
    ITSP

Unfortunately, I've also added five new ones to the list, with I Am Alive joining this list when the sale starts tomorrow

    Catherine
    Anomaly Warzone Earth
    Halo CE
    Iron Brigade
    Rayman Origins

I've also spent plenty of time over the summer/autumn going back to (re-)play long abandoned games like Gears 1 and Forza 2 which never helps when it comes to clearing a backlog.

    New year update.
I have cleared 3 games from the backlog
    Resistance3
    MW3
    Binary Domain.
Have also sold several games I was never going to play/play again or complete.

Only about another 40 to go, unless I sell or trade some.

How do you decide which backlog games to get stuck into first? I always pick the one thats gonna take the shortest amount of time the finish!

This to some degree, although I like to cycle FPS,third person,RPG keep me from getting bored, which happens very easily.
I downloaded all the latest Borderlands2 DLC last night, so I would think that will keep me busy* until Gears comes out

    *along with ps3 exclusives.

I tend to do the same as Duff, and tend to pick the next game based on the fact it's sufficiently different from the previous one. (as an example, my last few games were Metro 2033 /AC:Brotherhood / Rayman Origins / Batman:AC)

On length, I'll occasionally make sure I pick a short game with intentions to finish it before I go on holiday, but other than that, it's a fairly minor consideration.

My backlog is currently standing at 29, as it's always highest just after the Christmas / birthday period! On the positive side, the only game I want, but don't yet own is Far Cry 3, so these'll keep me going for a while!

    For shame Duffman!

I have only bought one since xmas which was Tomb Raider. My brother was trying to pre-order it but shopto was giving him trouble so he asked if I could order it for him. Just after I did he said he'd managed to get it, it was a good price so and I do really want to play it so I didn't refund and made an exception.

I've also added a few games to my list but I already owned them, I just didn't plan on playing them (that makes me sound terrible).
