    Just switch the drives?
DVD drives in 360 consoles are "married" to the hardware. You'll need to research a way to retrieve your old DVD drive "key" and use it for the new one if you try this approach.

Really? When my 360's drive went out I got a broken one off craigslist and swapped the drives and all was well. They were both Hitachis even though they were visibly different... Just luck? Maybe?

Welp I think it's safe to say I'm a bit out of my league here :D

I've never done it and I don't even know why I think it's true. :D

A quick Google search shows that lots of people believe it, though! ;) http://www.google.com/search?q=360+dvd+drive+married+to+console

Sorry to hear that Con - you could always tell the repair centre that it RROD'd so that they repair it free. I had one with an intermittent fault and they repaired it once I told the woman on the phone about the RROD.

Alas, my 3 year warranty ended 12/11/2010. :( Just finished talking to the guy on the phone.

you were pushing your luck! you should have traded it in for a 360s when it was working. ;)

It only needed to last until mid-next year. ;)

Was thinking the other day how lucky I've been with my original xbox then bang today the RROD, just within the 3 year warranty period so all is not bad.

Just wondering about the warranty after I get my console back? Will it start again or just run until it was supposed to?

I thought you got a new one-year RROD warranty with replacements (as opposed to three years for new consoles)?

So mines just gone tits up with the RROD. Are any of these solutions to be believed or does it need to be shipped to MS?

Ship it straight to MS. Do not pass GO. Do not collect 200.

Mine died just after the 3 years warranty. This time of year it's a good idea to keep an eye on ebay as many people got slims and are reselling perfectly good consoles. I saw a Super Elite go for 100 and myself I got a mint MW2 Super Elite for 140. That's 250GB for the price of a 4GB slim :)

I'm pretty sure I've asked this already, but I the drive in my Arcade model died a few months ago.

The console still works perfectly well (especially with XBLA games) - but I'm thinking that it's time to get the old dog repaired.

How much would you expect to pay to get a borked drive fixed?

Under 50 maybe but if you don't go through MS I'm pretty sure you'll lose the warranty on it. You could sell it as faulty and get a new one...

My frigging xbox refuses to die so think I'll just trade it for a slim. Any ideas how much I'll get for an original White xbox (non jasper) with no drive? Want the 4gb slim and will drop my existing 120gb drive in (have seen online it can be done!)

Apparently you can fit the old HDD in the slim, there's probably a tutorial somewhere on Youtube.

If this one RRODs then you are dead.

I have your address, I have been playing GTA SA, and I would feel obliged to commit some urban crime against you, namely throwing an xbox through your window. Two of them.

Mine has just went, 3 days before Portal 2 is released. Fucking typical. It's 3 and a half years old, does anyone know if I've got any chance of it being repaired by MS or am I likely to have to cough up for a new one?

Mirror's Edge was what killed it. I'll never play it again!

Mine died a few days ago. About 3 1/2 years old...

No money for new one. So it's either repair or bin.
