Interesting that the hardware itself was fine. I wonder how much of the dust you can remove by just putting a vacuum cleaner to the ventilation grills, without taking the case apart?

Registered 7 years agoI did that first. Turns out, not so much. If a Dyson isn't shifting it, it doesn't want to be shifted. Opening it up and blowing on it worked nice though.
Caveat, though: this machine is well out of warranty, and if it wasn't I would never have done it. -

Yeah most dvd drives will have that little pin hole shown in the link from mrpon for manual eject.

Managed 10 mins of Fable 3 play as well. Most annoying.Tell it to the cleaning lady on Monday.

Registered 3 years agoBollocks I think I'm about to get my first red ringpiece. All lights are green at the moment but last night I had four crashes in the space of fifteen minutes, three during New Vegas and one on the dashboard. And thy weren't freezes, they were loud buzzing noises followed by nasty looking lines appearing on the screen. Does this normally happen before RROD?
The fact that this has happened so soon after the dashboard update has me suspicious, but it's probably a coincidence. -

Registered 3 years agoRROD'd this morning. Two to three weeks until I get the replacement. Was half-way through New Vegas. WTF am I going to do with myself? -
I am about to get my 7th xbox in 3 years this week. First 4-5 I got through in a month as gamestation kept giving me dodgy ones that they just sell off regardless of them being broke. Last couple have crapped out too. Fun!

I think standard recourse would be to buy a Slim and borrow an HDD transfer cable to transfer all your content and use the DRM manager to assign it all to your new machine.
Then flog the fixed / replaced machine when you get it back!
That's what I'd do if one of mine went tits-up. -

Registered 5 years agoHaving owned a 360 since may 2006, I'm now a member of the RROD club for the first time. By coincidence I'm getting a nice cash windfall on monday- but there's loads of other things I wanted to spend it on, I'm wondering whether to replace or just play (good old high quality) PS3 from now on and maybe get a 360 next november (when Gears 3 comes out). I've lost the receipt so probably cant get a free repair or exchange.
I'm not superpissed like I thought I would be when/if this happened, which is strange. It didnt freeze or anything, I was playing earlier it was absolutely fine. I'm kind of hoping if I leave it awhile it'll sort itself out, has this been known to happen? If it doesnt I'll probably try towelling it tomorrow. -

Registered 9 years agoBah, just got an E74. Good thing I have SMG2 and Sonic Colours to play at the minute and GT5 next week, so probably won't even notice. Still annoying though. Just spent ages filling out the online repair forms, click submit, "the site is currently down, please try later". -
