Well I've put the guy on ignore for that. This is basically a UK pace thread and yeah, it's released early but most people will be at work and watching it tonight, so cheers for the spoiler you massive dickhead.

I did argue a while back there should be a separate thread for DSC, UK pace.

My bad ultimately, should know better really than to pop in here but like Fawkes, just wanted to know if it was decent or not.

For anyone new, see above post. There's a pretty big unmarked spoiler on the last page.

If you haven't seen the 1989 film Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, the following has spoilers for it. I know it's probably likely most people have seen it, but I'll tag it just in case anyone is watching Discovery as their first Star Trek and plans to watch everything else to catch up.

It might be nice to see Sybok next season. They could tie his embracing of emotion with having lived with Michael as a foster sister. Maybe he'd even work with her to learn how to share peoples pain, by helping Michael process some of her experiences from Season 1.

To be honest I have no idea if the timeline would even line up, or if there was any dialogue in that film that'd hint at their past, but it feels like it'd be around the time he'd do something so misguided his family would chose never to mention him again. It just feels like there's potential there to do something interesting with Sybok.

There's been talk about it in fan forums, but I'm in the camp that truly believes he's been deleted from canon.

Probably fired out of canon in a big space cannon. I agree, it's likely he shall never been mentioned again. I just think it'd be nice. Or maybe terrible.

Ooo I'd love that. The crazy fool. I think he could be a great character if it handled by anyone apart from Shatner :p

I hope they make the Vger = Borg fan theory canon. Probably my favourite fan theory ever and would make TMP a bit less shit.

I'm pretty sure that Gene Roddenberry is quoted as saying that Star Trek 5 is non canon. Presumably because he hated it too lol.

Huh. I thought that was a boring finale and didn't like how they resolved the Klingon war at all. But everyone else seems to be saying it was an enjoyable Star Trek-y ending, so it's probably just because this is my first Trek.

Roddenberry said a lot of things were non-canon because he was a hack who couldn't write a non-contradicting story to save his life.

    @DanoFNG

Nah, I thought it was wank too. Can see almost nothing good about it. Disappointing because some of the previous episodes were good/ok.

Well it's certainly true that TNG improved measurably after he let go of control.

It was a little flat compared to some of the highs of this season, but fuck it, that last scene is worth it.

I thought it was pointless fanwank, especially when the story so far has been doing just fine in a pretty much standalone world.

So basically an episode of fan service and was entirely shite. The last five minutes are the cringiest five minutes of TV I’ve seen in years. Just utter utter shite. For shame if you enjoyed that just for the last ten seconds.

I’d been quite enjoying the series but that last episode utterly shit the bed for me. Fuck. I was actually quite excited about it heading home from work too.

@null Actually that’s a really great summary of my feelings. It actually feels like a “sorry for pretending we’re something we’re not, look: here’s an episode as shit as some of the really old ones!!!”

Even the obvious season two hooks are doing nothing for me if this is how they’ll be served up.

Unless Burnham wakes up within seconds of the next episode and it was all a dream they can get fucked. :)

Rubbish final episode to a pretty rubbish series.

PS. Well done on the Federation for allowing the space hitler who committed galactic genocide in the mirror universe to simply roam free in this universe, nothing could go wrong there...

Yeah, felt a bit "Quick, wrap everything up, wink at the fans a few times and reset everything"...

Also just how did Michael get that thunderous round of applause?
Because she embodies the principles of Starfleet? Surely with the scale of the war just about everyone in that crowd had lost someone they knew and all because Michael started it (as far as they know)...

Though canonically the captain they're picking up on Vulcan can't be Spock, right? Did he ever have a prior command?

Also Saru should have been given a promotion...

Still, good news is we're rid of the Klingons for a bit...

I'm sure she would have had the opportunity to set the record straight about what started the war by that point. The show isn't in the habit of spoon feeding every facet of minutia, thank fuck.

Spock's on the Enterprise. Although Spock will never appear on the show, so who knows.

Before the show started, Burnham was meant to be captain, so something is likely to happen to make that a thing sooner or later.

You mean they beam aboard the new Vulcan captain and he/she gets stuck in the transporter beam for too long due to a malfunction making Michael captain?

    Those screams...

Thing about the war starting is that there was nothing much to set straight, "I knocked out the captain and tried to fire on the Klingons" isn't something taken out of context...
