Oh, and on the topic of the collection, despite how brief the magazine was I did enjoy it.

Who knew the Enterprise was Duck Egg Blue?

Anyway, back onto the series, I am halfway through season 5 of Voyager and it is the most fun I have had in Star Trek in years.

Partly it is new, when I watch DS9, TNG, TOS etc, I am watching old friends, but for me late Voyager is like having a new series. And it is actually rather good.

When it is bad, it is the worst Star Trek ever, and I genuinely despise half the crew. But some of the stories and plots are just so fucking good. Just watched Thirty Days, Counterpoint, Latent Image and Bride of Chaotica! 4 episodes on one disk and all are 8/10, a first for any disk so far.

DS9 for me was mostly 7/10 with dips to 5/10 and some 10/10. TNG was 3/10 to 9/10.

Voyager is some 0/10, some 10/10 and some negative numbers which are genuinely hateful, but when it hits those highs, it is fantastic.Such a random quality show.
Bloody last post of page! Stealing my attention! (And I am interested in what people though of late Voyager.)

Jonathan Archer's middle name is Beckett

It's beta-canon source, but still a nice touch I think.

@RyanDS - my trawl through voyager episodes is nearly done. "End game" tonight, I'll post later for prosperity.

Watched Scientific Method from Voyager season 4 last night forgot all about that one quite a disturbing and creepy episode, funny to think Paris and B'lanna done the nasty because aliens were making them all horny :)

Year of Hell 1/2 tonight, I remember that being quite good 2 parter. I quite like Voyager I don't really understand why so many hate it, OK it's characters are not the same calibre of TNG and DS9 but I still quite like them.

    Me too :(

I'd like a nice 12 episode series, with great effects and fantastic characters exploring new worlds and tackling difficult problems. Also set in the future, long after other Trek.

Can video games be a force for good? My latest article says yes!

Yeah, I don't really want it set in the Abrams verse, but of course it would have to be. If it was set far in the future it would be pretty different though. And made by different people, don't want Kurtzman and Orci to be involved. Although Fringe is great, not sure how much involvement they had in that (little I'd bet).

Wprth noting the rose tinted view of all Star Trek this evokes.

Oh totally. It's like an old relationship. The bad times melt away and all you have are done memories and emotions. And then suddenly you're crywanking in the shower whilst you tell yourself that Continuum is the only Sci Fi you need in your life but it's not, it's just not the same.

There were rumours of a Titan series that followed Riker's first command after he left the Enterprise.

There are always fucking rumours. I'm fed up of rumours. There are no space opera shows on the air at the moment. Star Trek would have the genre to its self.

I'm not sure Star Trek is really opera is it? More like "Home and Away - in Space" ... space soap opera?

Anyway, this should cheer you up.

    Sorry!

    Not really! ;-)

They have gotten teleport working in a limited way. Some clever people have been able to teleport a single photon a very short distance.

While not useful and very far off atoms (let alone putting molecules together)  it is a start. I'll dig up the paper on it when I get a chance at work.

Known as 'Sharzam' in 98.5% of games

Some of the old Star Trek cast is busy with crowd-funding a new pilot.

"As our name suggests, we’re Renegades! We are attempting a bold new concept in television – create a full new Star Trek pilot episode to present to CBS as a possible online or cable series, rather than just pitch an abstract idea to a studio exec and hope we catch him on a good day."

I'm not sure I'd want it to be picked up. I mean, I guess there wouldn't be any harm in it, but it just seems like tacky, semi-cannon TV.

Sort of looks like it be in the same tone as Enterprise and their search for the Xindi weapon. That season was sort of alright, or at least the best Enterprise story. Bit too many returning characters though.

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

Probably most of them are one offs for the pilot to drum up interest from CBS executives.

And Season 5 of Voyager down.

I actually loved it. Some really solid 9/10 stuff in there (Timeless, Bride of Chaotica, Dark Frontier, Think Tank, Someone to watch over me, Relativity and the finale.) Saying that the Doctor and 7 of Nine are fantastic, every single other character without exception may as well not be on the show, or could in any episode be replaces by a random crewman. I don't even dislike Neelix anymore, rather he is just background, Tuvok, Chakotay, Kim and Torres were absent from half the season as well. Apart from the 2 good characters the only person who stood out was Janeway, and that's only because she gets more repugnant, hypocritical and shouty as the series wears on.

There were also however some utter stinkers. (Night, Gravity. Course Oblivion, The Fight and the one about Janeway's ancestor are amongst the worst Trek ever produced.)

However the highs are very high. With these stories and a likable crew this could be the best trek ever, however the cast just is not to the job.

    7.5/10

    Holy shit!

Just seen the best Star Trek episode of all time. Tinker, Tenor, Soldier, Spy.

I was genuinely in stitches for most of the episode, the opening especially is the funniest thing I have seen in ages.

    Yep.

Straight into one of my top three episodes ever.

It is just so much fun! Worthy of sitting alongside the TNG finale and In The Pale Moonlight.
