I have successfully avoided all trailers since the first teaser, I have never done this for any blockbuster since the internet "has been around" - I've always been keen to consume all build up materials. This time, it's different.
@Razz That .jpg ^ is just...brilliant!
The guy at the end.. Tuvok!

This is a day one watch at the pictures for me, I've not seen a Star Trek movie at the flicks before.
I watched the TNG ep 'Tapestry' yesterday - I was touched by it, can't believe I hadn't seen it until now and it's a Ron D Moore script!
It's one of my top 3 TNG episodes. Human play Damjat!
Frame of mind
My favourite episodes in no particular order.
Q has just his best line in that one
Q to Picard
"I had no idea you were such a cad. I'm impressed."
what the hell is this from the new Star Trek film? An over designed photon torpedo?

I still say there'll be no Khan as that'd be so idiotic it'd make my nose bleed (or at the very least it definitely won't be Cumberlandsausage), but that certainly looks like it could be a Genesis prototype of sorts. Nothing to say you couldn't have Genesis without Khan.
Also it's a nice touch that it has CVN-65 written on it. You know, CVN-65

Ha! Well spotted!
It is a nice touch though.
It will probably be the maguffin for the film.

He'd actually make a perfect Jedi, maybe Abrams should 'make it so'.

Major spoiler: http://www.chud.com/128567/star-trek-into-major-spoilers/
I'll err on the side of caution and tag this all, now I think about it. Nothing directly spoiley but it does potentially allude to things.
I can't help but feel, if it's true, that it comes off as a little bit lazy, to the point I can't help but wonder if it's a late and misguided April Fools - hey, if it works for Queeg, who am I to argue
Don't get me wrong, I'd still watch it because it'll still most likely be an excellent movie, which is the most important thing. To refuse to watch it just because I feel a plot point feels a bit lazy would be rather stupid (hint hint Mr I-refuse-to-watch-the-first-one ).

I've put this in the Rate a TV series thread, but I feel I should put it here as well...
Star Trek: Deep Space 9
My Star Trek super marathon continues, with TOS, TNG and now DS9 under my belt. Just had a 6 episode marathon to finish it off.
DS9 was always my favourite, though I haven't seen it for around 10 years. Suffice to say I fucking loved it. It started good, and just ramped up to get better every season, until the final 9 episode arc was one of my favourite bits of TV ever. The characters are awesome, I love the Miles / O'Brien friendship, the way it grows through the series it just so realistic an great. Sisko is awesome throughout and even the comic relief in the form of the Ferengi is only marginally annoying as opposed to shit. In fact, unlike TNG I actually enjoyed the comic relief bits.
I am hesitant to rate this my favourite TV series ever, as it sits with Babylon 5 as just amazing storylines, with great arcs and characters, but some days I feel it is. However Babylon 5 is just tighter, but then DS9 has the productions and the longer run and just feels more polished, I really can't decide.
As regards star Trek I usually enjoy is as a guilty pleasure, and am aware of it's flaws and silliness. I love TNG and TOS kitsch and all. DS9 is different in that it is not good Star Trek, it is genuienly good TV.
Anyway, to rate the series:
DS9 Series 7: 10/10
The series as a whole, 9/10. Which is pretty much as good as any series ever gets.
Next up is Voyager, which I hated when it first showed, but fuck it, I've watched 57 hours of TOS, 128 of Next Gen, and now 126 of DS9. I can handle another 203 for Voyager and Enterprise, and the box set can't just sit there on my shelf.

Dirtbox wrote:Oooooh controversial. Probably right though Voyager gets a lot of stick but it was a cracking series and the whole this is a series about a crew trying to get home element gave the viewer a goal, something to watch for. Also, while TNG had great characters, in truth Voyager (and DS9) many more "interesting" characters that allowed from some brilliant episodes and story arcs.
Pound for pound, Voyager is better than TNG.
Would still have Troi over Seven Of Nine any day though, even now she's all old I still fancy her
