Registered 7 years agoFucking "ad hoc" multiplayer again...
You may as well release the bloody game on the Wii.

Registered 7 years agoAd-hoc - meh.
"Unite" however, hints at the PS3 Ad-hoc/Infrasructure mode being enabled at the same time. Why else would they bother releasing a "G" MH in Europe, except to link up with the larger Japanese community ?
Things just got interesting.......You can read this ? You've helped ruin the place.

Yeah thats what I'm thinking, Sony and Capcom will time the release of MH Freedom Unite and the PSP online service via PS3 launch to coincide in the Spring.

Registered 7 years agoOnly problem is that Spring is so far away, and it'll be delayed until Autumn, and so on......
By which time, the combination of MH3 and anticipation of a new Freedom will have diminished the MHPG2 base to almost nowt.
There'll probably be a Gundam game on the week it happens too, just for added fun.

Registered 7 years agoLive in Central London? Read on then!
Capcom said that it would be giving Monster Hunter a massive marketing push in the west and, from the email we just received, it seems it wasn't lying. The UK branch is planning on opening up a Monster Hunter drop-in center this Summer in central London. The building will facilitate the playing of Monster Hunter Portable Unite in teams -- the way it's meant to be played.
One of the reasons the series has been so poorly adopted in the west is that we tend to play either alone or online. In Japan it's far more common to play together in the same room -- particularly with handhelds. The details have yet to be finalized but it looks as though an entire three story building will be made available throughout the month of July for gamers to drop by and play with other Monster Hunter players, enjoy free "sweets and fizzy pop" and charge up their PSPs.
The Monster Hunter den will be open until "at least 8 p.m." each evening, after which the games can continue down at the pub. Sounds like an ingenious (if costly) marketing ploy to us. We'll keep you informed of the details once they're finalized. On Twitter: @HiddenAway1

Nice idea if the series was well established and this was a highly anticipated sequel, but for a series Capcom want to push onto many who overlooked or didn't know about it raises some issues.
Will they let people turn up and upload a demo or a preview copy of the game, and if not how are Capcom going to convert the curious and undecided to buy?
Besides I don't live in London, so yeah online all the way for me. -

Registered 8 years agoWell I think Capcom is using some of the same tactics Nintendo did to promote Pokemon (which at the time couldn't have been online, but did a-okay for years without it), because the similarity of the two phenomenons is pretty obvious. -
Interesting point, but I'm still unsure if Monster Hunter can be more than cult hit here, the look, branding and merchandise (tv series on Sky One, films in cinema nationwide) of Pokemon helped sell it here and MH looks too 'gamey' and the PSP is very much a non-entity in wider popular culture for it to make an impact.
Really if Capcom give it a community site and dedicated online support, the fans and those on the sidelines looking to see what the fuss is all about will try it out.
People who didn't buy the previous PSP versions for lack of online support will help others get up to speed and I'm sure we'll get a long thread here and on other boards arranging sessions, meaning word of mouth sales down the line. I just don't see the game doing big numbers, not even on the forthcoming Wii edition. -
@disc I presume you mean the Dreamcast version (is the PSP one playable online?) I'm wondering if what helped Phantasy Star Online was timing and being tied into the Dreamcast online set up, the game that defined it. Kind of a in the moment thing, right place, right time on the right system, sorta like how Call of Duty 4 blew up on PS3 and Xbox360 and got many people who never play online games doing so.
Sony's PSP strategy here and the 'idealogy' of the system (is it a home machine, portable device, multi-media system etc) is patchy to put it lightly. -

I suspect it may have had something to do with the fact that it is much, much, much simpler and easier than Monster Hunter, in fairness.
Since western gamers enjoyed Phantasy Star Online I don't understand why this isn't liked. -

Registered 7 years agoI still think - despite loving this series of games more than any other - that it'll struggle to really take off, until the series gets that big push with either a 360 or PS3 version. For you obvious gamer types, the Wii version will suit - but a game like this, with such slow release depth and that requires a massive commitment from the player, won't suit the average Wii owner.
Yes, I mean young kids and housewives... sorry. People who game, communally, for maybe half an hour a day. I fear the series is headed to the grave...
I'll be buying the PSP version on day one, of course... but I don't think these handheld releases can continue to endure - in the west, at least. -

Doesn't have any real content yet but I'm pleased that Capcom has decided to push this game. -

This would sell a shit load on 360 and Ps3. What the hell are Capcom thinking? -

Registered 7 years agoWii (waaay more units than PS/360) + MHTri + Japan = Shitload of cash.
Factor in the Pay-to-Play online and frankly, Capcom could possibly retire early..gif)

For me it's the levelling up. I like to not only get more skillful, but have my character get better too. Not that I don't get what makes Monster Hunter awesome - treking off to have epic battles with huge monsters in suits of armour and weapons crafted by your own hand (almost, you own parts at least). But it's not PSO.
Since western gamers enjoyed Phantasy Star Online I don't understand why this isn't liked.Kirby is the man! Even if he wasn't, he'd just ingest and become one.

Registered 6 years agoThe European bundle details have been revealed:
Silver PSP 3000
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Monster Hunter branded pouch
Screen wipe
Monster Hunter skin that fits over PSP(?)
I think it's quite a nice bundle, but I would have prefered a black or white PSP. -

It's not immediate, although that's improving with each iteration... but "visual charm"? I'm not sure what you mean, ecureuil. I bought PSO hoping for a similar MH experience. I found it utterly tedious and insipid. And PSO looks like absolute shite, imo.
