|Mainly magic and int if you can stay alive. To really go op, cast all the spells while holding the Kris knife and wearing the monks hat. Devastating|

Devastatingly powerful. I've seen a full on magic char one shot bosses. Not so versatile for general level clearing, but for bosses - nothing beats it
Ok I went magician. Pretty happy with my choice!
Lore time - So watching the opening dialogue (and paying attention this time), is my understanding right that king allant used the soul arts to overthrow king doran? Then he brought prosperity to the boletaria (I assume by using soul arts) but in doing so inadvertently awoke the old one? And he is known as the false king because he overthrew doran and so is not the rightful king of boletaria?
There's all something to be said about the momentals dabbling in the soul arts. I'm not clear on 'who started it first'
All very confusing. I think I'll actually enjoy it more on this playthrough. Taking more stuff in etc.
I'm thinking for my char that the crescent falchion (scales with mag) will be a good melee weapon for when magic isn't possible / effective.
Best bow perhaps the lava bow? Sure I read somewhere about the fire damage scaling with magic stat.
Yeah, crescent falchion would be good.
Check this out for how powerful you can get if you dedicate yourself -
Wow, thats pretty powerful!
Loving the monks hat too.
He's using the rats ring, insanity catalyst, and is that the morion blade in his right hand? I can't make it out. It all stacks anyway, so with all those, plus about 50 odd magic, it's extremely powerful
Can't remember what the rats ring does.
I'm going to need to get used to not having a shield in my left hand I think. Holding L1 is always my default stance!
It increases your damage out by around 20% (iirc) when you're low on health. Motion blade does the same and it stacks. Can't actually remember what difference the insanity catalyst does.
You'd probably use a shield for general levels and then kit up at boss fog door. Or just run through the level if you can
Think it's the clever cat's ring that boosts damage at low health. Yeah I'm thinking of getting the morion blade this time.
cat/rat/potato, whichever one it is
Can't remember how to craft the morion blade either
You use a Demon's soul (one of the arch demons, can't remember which). I was going to make in my last game but couldn't arsed to farm the materials I needed to get a sword to +6 or whatever.
Just got to Allant. So close to finishing the game and then I can finally say I've beaten both games.
Allant was a good fight
Really enjoying my 2nd playthrough. My magician is coming along nicely!
Poison cloud spamming + watching netflix. Aw yeah cheap win.
Magician class is a bit overpowered isn't it? I'm powering through in no time! I've done 1-1, 1-2 (including dragon!), 2-1 and 3-1 so far.
The only time I have died was in 3-1. I did pretty much the entire level, then casually fell down a hole. Cue much swearing followed by funny looks from the other half. I then got killed by an octopus head on my way back to the bloodstain. Grrr.
Enjoying the second playthrough more than the first I think. Had a plan of what items I wanted from what levels and just worked through them.
Yup its quite powerful isn't it. Plus you're more confident with the levels too so youllget through them quicker. Using crescent falchion? How are you levelling up?
Yep Crescent Falchion was a must.
After 1-1 my plan was to get 2-1 done to get my soul for the lava bow. Then 3-1 for the soul ray and ring of magical sharpness. Picked up the silver coronet and silver talisman too. Then onto 1-2 to use my soul ray to take out the dragon. Next up is 2-2, to get flamelurkers soul to give to ed so I can make my lava bow which I will need for worlds 4 and 5
Think my stats are magic 25, int 20, vit 13, end 13. I upped my strength to 14 so I could use lava bow.
Not sure how many points to put into end and vit though....
Trying to finish this run of demons before moving onto dark. Wasted most of last night hunting crystal lizards trying to get pure darkmoonstone but none of the fuckers dropped any
Now my crescent falchion is stuck on +4
Got 1-3, 1-4, 3-2, 3-3 and all of world 5 still to go.
I'll probably cave though and move onto dark!
you know it makes sense

Ok so I have caved and bought this (finally). While it is downloading do you lovelies have any tips for me?
What class(es) to start as? Are the stats and priorities the same as in DaS?
What fundamental differences are there compared to what I'm used to... ie I take it there are no souls as a currency and no bonfires?
Any tips welcome

Souls yes, but bonfires no. The zones run off a single hub. It's simple but better than the sprawling mess that is open-world.
The breaking point between fast roll and medium roll is half of maximum equipment burden. There is no faster roll at 25%.
If you are in soul form you have only half of your maximum health.
There is an item burden so stockpile your loot regularly in the hub area.
Magic is very powerful.
The upgrade paths are more complicated and weapon-type specific - but that will become relevant later.
Backstabs require you to be in a narrower angle behind the enemy but at the same time the distance is not as critical as in Dark Souls. So angle is more important and being up close is less important compared to Dark Souls.
There is no poise.
There are no armour upgrades.
The world tendency is quite complicated - it's not required to understand it for completion but it grants access to certain small areas and items.
Class - Royality class is very popular because of magic. Knight is also a good start (very good shield and sword). Barbarian is the most difficult one, I guess.

Everyone overlooks the awesome thief! The coolest looking class, unless you have the courage to venture into 3.1 hehe...
5.x is a fun level too! : D
The thief playstyle is one of the best in the game but the starting class has 15 luck which is basically 8 wasted stat points compared to the royality class. And for the appropriate style - I go 1-1 -> 4-1 crescent falchion -> 3-1 thief set
Out of all my playthroughs I only made one mage character, because everything seemed way too easy with that class. The thief as you pointed out has high luck, but is better for getting those really hard to find chunks and pure stones (especially blade!).
So whilst people struggled getting chunks and stuff, I never really had to grind that much for my upgrades.
In a no item duplication run the luck stat is a neat thing, true. I'm used to making dedicated low level invaders/coop chars so now I'm always focused on doing stat optimization.
My recommendations for a starting class, for a beginner wasn't about my own class preferences.
Otherwise it would be either thief, hunter, wanderer or barbarian.

Are the EU servers still running? It's been a while since I had a PS3. Thus me wanting a Vita port of this.
